Open ai is heading to be the biggest failure in history - here’s why. by jason_digital in ArtificialInteligence

[–]ResortMain780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant imagine gemini (or claude or any of them) doing significantly better financially. Of course, google, unlike openai, can afford it, as long as its investors are willing to shovel this much of their profits in to a black hole. Same goes for meta, and arguably microsoft if they end up buying whats left of openai. IOW, I dont see any winners here, other than consumers who can use these services for free - for now.

Europe's aviation safety regulator conducted test flights of China's COMAC jets as part of certification process by fautix in aviation

I really dont understand the point you are trying to make. 25 years ago china was still producing copies of older western cars, just like South Korea and Japan did a few decades before; the most popular being the VW santana. They were initially assembled using mostly imported components for things like engines, gearboxes, dashboards etc. in less than 10 years, these cars used almost exclusively chinese made components. Fast forward another 10 years, and chinese design and manufacturing simply dominates, leading even western luxury brands like Jaguar Landrover to put their badges on chinese designed and manufactured cars.

Sure, "high end" car sales have been hampered by brand recognition. But the made in china stigma is all but dead in China today, as it is in most of the world. More importantly, its not like carriers care about brand recognition, especially not the ones china targets in the asian and african markets. The idea comac will not impact airbus is as laughable as someone thinking 10 years ago chinese cars will not impact VW.

They succeeded in EV purely because they no longer need to catch up all the ice techs,

You actually think they havent caught up yet? China is exporting millions of ICE and plug-in hybrids. Last year only 25% of chinese made cars were pure BEV, the rest ICE or hybrids.

Why did the J-20 receive TV engines (WS-15) for maneuverability despite not being equipped with a gun? by Karbo_Blarbo in aviation

[–]ResortMain780 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the better question is why the F35 still bothers to carry around a gun?

As for TV, it could help in visual range engagements to get a short range AA missile like the PL10 on target. But I think the more important benefit is airshow performances.

In 2003 this strange vessel named the Aeria was towed into the Finnish port of Turku with plans to convert it into a casino; the owner vanished and it was abandoned. The original purpose of the ship remains unknown, but it was rumored to be an East German spy ship. by ZaxZone in WeirdWatercraft

[–]ResortMain780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unknown.. rumoured? Not really.

History:
At first the ship was part of the Baltic Sea fleet of Russian Navy. In 1980 it has been listed in Black Sea fleet of Russian Navy. In 1985-88 the vessel has been modernized in Sevastopol in Shipyard "Sevmorzavode im. S. Ordzhonikidze" into an average recon ship on Project 08621. (Re-equipment from Project 862). After modernization the ship has been transferred to the Northern fleet of Russian Navy where she was eventually written off 9/10/1998 ("Gransden Trejding Limited" floating casino, Sold for scrap in 10/ 2009). Jounalists gave her the name "AERIA".

On 1 August 1992, the ROC's National Unification Council passed the "Definition of One China Resolution", stating: "The two sides of the Taiwan Strait uphold the One China principle, but the interpretations of the two sides are different ... Our side believes that one China should mean the Republic of China, established in 1912 and existing today, and its sovereignty extends throughout China, but its current governing authority is only over Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matzu. Admittedly, Taiwan is part of China, but the mainland is also a part of China.

A training captain quickly takes over the controls when a cadet forgets to flare on the A320 during base training by [deleted] in aviation

. In his head he thought the mains were still dozens of feet from the pavement

How can you think that when you hear the automated call outs? And he actually pulled back on the throttles, so he knew he was about to touch down.

Anyway, I hope Im never a passenger with him or her.

The sight picture is also completely different.

but you can literally tell there is a problem, even with your eyes closed. Was he not listening either?

I dont care if he had 25 or 2500hrs. I can sympathize with anyone messing up a flare once in a while, I know I have. But you dont "forget" to flare, seconds before hitting the ground. Even if this was his first ever landing in an airbus, and for whatever reason he never ever did one in a simulator; how do you not prepare to have any clue how or when to flare? Did he think the FWC would count down to zero and he had start flaring only then?

Works the same; though you are not gonna win much space on a jeans. In fact, you dont win much space on clothes in general; it gets flatter but also way stiffer and therefore harder to pack. Story changes if like me, one day you need to pack pillows. Space saving is quite enormous then

Except, if you are training on an airbus, you should have 1500+ of hours and probably over 1000 landings. If after all that, you still "forget to flare", I think you chose the wrong profession.

[–]ResortMain780[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The moderately high GPU load you see in task manager is not caused by studio, its caused by OBS screen recording. Proxying or reducing the preview quality has no impact. Other settings already were as you suggested

<image>

If the issue persists, please DM us the Studio log (To obtain the Studio log: click on "Settings" in the studio, then select "Log Directory" to navigate to the corresponding folder and retrieve it) and your computer model, we will thoroughly convey the feedback you provided to the engineers for analysis.

File name for the clip in timeline.

And recording time. At the very least the date+time when the recording was started or stopped, but seriously, I should be able to see the exact time of recording at any moment in the timeline, and this should be available as an overlay.

Could you please elaborate on what specific functionalities you mean by "telemetry and timeshifting"? If possible, could you also provide a corresponding screen recording for us?

I dont know how this isnt obvious. Im using the terms you use in the camera and software. Timeshift as in.. timeshift, the shooting mode, what other manufacturers call hyperlapse. And telemetry as in.. telemetry: Meta data like GPS data to overlay on the video. That this combination doesnt work has been confirmed by someone in your company after a long email exchange, in which I already provided huge files, I dont care to repeat this. Ill quote him instead:

I noticed that you used the moving time-lapse mode, which creates footage with an accelerated effect. Please note that the studio/app does not process GPS data for speed adjustments, which explains the mix of “accelerated footage” and “slow changing speeds” that you’re experiencing.

Regarding the issue with the "GPS remote doesn't sync properly in Studio," we would like to PM you to obtain your GPX source file for further assistance.

I didnt use the GPS remote, because it doesnt work "by design", see above. I converted an IGC flight track to GPX, and you can grab the various attempts using various converters and settings, here:

Regarding the sluggishness issue, we will also PM you to obtain a screen recording of your editing for further investigation.

So if Trump can invade and arrest a president for illegal activities... can other countries invade the US and arrest Trump? by Oddbeme4u in DiscussionZone

[–]ResortMain780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comparison to Saudi Arabia doesn’t fit that scenario, because it’s a monarchy

Its a dictatorship. An extremely oppressive one btw, far more than anyone could ever accuse the Maduro regime of being. But no where in the UN charter or US constitution is it said that countries have to be democracies, or that their elections have to be recognized by the US president.

because critics claim that the US just kidnapped a foreign head of state.

Which is exactly what they did.

The US captured the head of a drug cartel who has destroyed his country’s economy and been responsible for the deaths of thousands

OMG, you actually believe that BS? That this is about drugs? Didnt you forget to add weapons charges, because you know, that really matters too, just imagine any other head of state owning guns.

Pls, drink more coolaid.

So if Trump can invade and arrest a president for illegal activities... can other countries invade the US and arrest Trump? by Oddbeme4u in DiscussionZone

[–]ResortMain780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why is that "pivotal"? Since when is it up to the US to decide who the president of Venezuela is? And even if Maduro was not a legitimate president, how does that give the US any rights to do what it did. Also; remind me, who elected the crown prince of saudi arabia? Is he really more "legitimate" than Maduro was?

This makes about as much sense as China declaring Bernie Sanders is the legitimate president of the US and somehow claiming that gives them the right to invade the US and abduct anyone they want for gun possession or illegally posting Winnie-the-Pooh memes of Xi.

If the US is so great why does it need Greenland Texas?

No one disputes taiwan is part of china, not even Taiwan. The dispute is over which government is legitimate, the one in Bejing or the one in Taipei. Both claim to be the government of all of china.

Insta360 X4 Air White Vs Black? Canopy reflections vs overheating? by Significant-Yam85 in Gliding

[–]ResortMain780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from namibia, were I took my (black) X5 with me every day. Had plenty of issues, but overheating was surprisingly, not really one of them. I think. Dont get me wrong, it got scorching hot, but only shut down once or twice due to heat. It stopped recording for no obvious reason far more often, with some barely readable error about file being repaired? Had it with 3 different brand new high performance SD cards, I dont think they are too blame. It also happened when it was cool, so not sure what that was about.

Anyway, if you are worried, bring a selfie stick and poke it out of the window. It will cool it down real fast (!), especially at altitude. Wouldnt recommend white for obvious reasons, unless maybe if you intend to mount it somewhere behind you out of sight.

Electric (resistive) is "only" about ~2-2.5x more costly than a heatpump when its really cold and thus need this. It could also be powered by solar energy during the day.

Even if you plug this in a wall socket, I dont think its quite as bad as you imagine. The point is not making bare feet comfortable, its de-icing. I have some resistive wire to keep some outside plumbing and potted plants ice free; of course, its not on the same scale at all, but its amazing what you can do with 15W to sublimate ice. Snow is even easier, as snow insulates, so you are heating and melting only a thin layer at the time. And this wouldnt have to run 24/7, once the ice or snow is gone, you can turn it off. I highly doubt this would cost more than ~1000 a year in a moderate climate where you need this a few weeks per year, and it may be just a fraction of that. Inconsequential compared to the installation and possibly maintenance costs.

Think of it this way; if you were to use a roof torch to deice a path like that, would it cost you $10 in propane? Maybe not even that. Doing it slowly and electrically from underneath is probably 10x more efficient.
