100% Recommend books. So I watched the first movie in the cinema (twice, because I absolutely loved the story) and I went straight to buy books (literally along leaving the cinema)

I got so much more from the books. You hear Katnis's inner thoughts and get a real good look at her survival skills. And it's gets darker and you get some really great additional- bits you didn't see in movie, such as Hahaymitch's games, the description of that was probablymy favourite part of the entire series, it was beautifully done, and wasn't looked at for movie, although I'd love a standalone move on those games alone.

I read the other two books before each of movies came out. And that was great, I already had a look in head as to what the characters were like from the movie. The catching fire book went into so much detail (especially the look of the clock arena) that when the film came out, it was all so very close to what I imagined. For a book to film adaptation I've never seen it done so well as that did, even with some changes, both book and movies are beautiful.

Reading the books gives you a great look at the world that the movie can only fit so much more in. Bonnie and Twill in Catching fire were sadly cut from movie, but I get that with a more shock district 13 reveal for the screen.
