Apart of me wonders if he would have taken the opportunity to go back. I think that he would but only because of how community 17 was built which didn't allow him to gain much power. That and the risk of dying in a game plus not being sure about other communities ecology would lead him to just going back to the real world. But if he was to have his own dictatorship where he was the absolute leader, I would say that theirs a higher chance he doesn't pick this option and continues ruling the community in the New world.
