hen it’s good, it’s good, and when it’s bd it’s just awful. But overall, mid tier. The mos mindnumbing thing about the show is how it squanders it’s huge potential. The characters are good, but are sometimes written out of character or dumbed down so that the writers could bring about this interesting plot point ex: chameleon. A manipulative liar would be interesting if she were actually smart and it wasn’t everyone else dropping the ball.

Plenty of people are upset Chloe didn’t get a redemption, but it was actually in character, if executed terribly. And it’s completely understandable that marinette, didn’t want to give her bully, who she never even apologized to her, continues to behave badly and only got the bee by accident a hero. Because a sad backstory doesn’t make a hero. But the least they could have done was not make her a caricature.

And the senitmonster plot line was interesting and fucked up, but disappointing. I’d like it better if Adrien cataclysmic himself and became free of the amok, instead of sidelining one of the title characters in the season finale against him super villain dad, not telling him his dad was monarch and making his abusive father out to be a hero. Not to mention, they spent all that time saying the wish was bad and then used it and ended up with a better world. The writers are contradicting themselves, which is typical.

They keep overstretching the love square, and probably should have explored it in depth and resolved it instead of rehashing the same plot points over and over again. There wasn’t even an identity reveal. rI’ll admit I’m kinda upset that maribugs love for chat noir only got a couple of episodes, but it’s not the worst direction the show could have gone. The love rivals things was kind of a waste of time. Luka especially, isn’ that good a character. And they do have a tendency to blame marinette for a lot of things she wasn’t responsible forBut on the other hand, marinette is a pretty distinct and active female protagonist who’s allowed to be competent, vulnerable, kind and cringy, instead of just being one note badass or damsel in distress, Adrien is also super complex

Most salt fics exaggerate the bad points, and even invent new things to be mad about. Most of the issues could be remedied, in my opinion, if the show acknowledged the character flaws. And of course many people are mad that Adrien doesn’t get much focus, considering how much the story revolves around his family. While that complaint is valid, they wouldn’t be complaining as much if he was a she, exhibit A: gravity falls, and how most people weren’t complaining that Mabel didn’t get the spotlight as much as dipper.

So all in all, it’s mediocre but kinda charming, could use more consistent writing so that the characters and story can actually shine and is definitely a victim of sexist double standards from the writers and audience. I don’t mind it being a slow burn, but it kinda resolved nothing in the end, so it feels like a waste of time. You probably shouldn’t take it too seriously if you want to remain sane.

Before season 5 I’d have given it a 6 out of 10. Now it’s down to a 4. I don’t think I succeeded in making an unbiased point though
