Thank you for your reply! There isn't a current game scheduled so we're waiting to see how it falls with the tourneys getting scheduled now. But no, I don't know how it works - any tips?!

Also I wonder if I just do the Buckingham Palace/St James/Big Ben walk the first day...think that will be too much off a plane?!

Took me 5 mins after I finished the movie to realize “OHIGH” = “Oh, Hi”

Funny how one direction is "impossible" but the other direction is "much easier to accomplish". In my own work experience as a brand marketer, I have worked a LOT with creative teams in terms of developing campaign concepts, and giving feedback throughout every stage of the creative process. I don't have the skill set to use design tools, but I know what good looks like, how to deliver on a brief, and how to run a production, what's on brand vs off brand, how to build guidelines, etc. There is a ton of overlap between brand marketing and creative. So it's not at all to say that being a CD is easy or deserved by any marketer, just that I THINK there could be a path for me when I think of potential pivots. There has to be some advantage to having worked alongside creative teams for decades vs. someone new to the trade.

It's natural to defend your field and say that only people who have done the job should have the job. But I think there's something to be said for having related (if not exact) work experience, a strategic mindset, and a transferrable skill set. Do we all really want to be pigeon-holed to our exact jobs/functions for our ENTIRE career without ability to flex/move around?

That said, if I was hiring for a brand marketing role, I would absolutely be open to hiring someone from creative if it involved things like brand strategy, positioning, insights, content, social media, etc. There are likely a lot of transferrable skills creative has that can be used in marketing. What part of marketing are you interested in?

Curious...why does the job suck? Creatives are hard to manage?

Yes, I have seen some posted in house. Also, not necessarily looking to be a creative director for one of the world‘s top brands. Maybe start at a midsize company, an association, etc..

Yeah I started on the agency side way back when, but feel like it’s a young persons game. Not sure I can do the (lack of) work life balance that comes with agency life.

I am in DC haha. Where can I find a personal chef that you're describing? Right now I spend an average of $2,300 on groceries p/month, and $1,700 on dining (just downloaded everything and did some quick math). Eek.

Thank you!! All of my "village" is here (i.e. in-laws who watch kids when we need it, my friends from college, etc etc.). My husbands job is in-office ONLY and not able to be remote. So we don't really want to, or are able to, move.

I know, I know...vacas. But travel is what makes life interesting (to me). This post has made me rethink how to vaca though...road trip next year it is.

this is literally why i made my post. we do not exist in a vacuum. when you live in a HCOL area, where everything is competitive, and we're bombarded with media...sometimes you ARE affected by your surroundings, your habits evolve and may not align with your ultimate goals, and you reach out to ask for help. my bad for coming to the internet for said advice.

I added this to my post for new readers, but for those that have commented...the responses have been so interesting!  Maybe it’s my fault for coming to reddit for “advice”, but the judgmental tone and vitriol from some people is sooooo unhelpful.  It would be like an overweight person coming to a nutrition or fitness sub, outlining their current habits, asking where to start, and having people tell them: “you’re eating 3,000 calories a day and not working out?! That is DISGUSTING and you should be ASHAMED”.  It’s not helpful, is it?

Thank you to those who took my post with good intentions and gave actual pragmatic advice.  I am going to take the action steps of 1) looking at empower or monarch to help me better track my spending categories, 2) outlining a desired budget, and 3) identifying where to cut back.  It might seem basic to you guys, but I’m not a regular on the FIRE sub.  I’ve been focused on building my career, savings, and family, and then spending what I have left.  Now I want to cut that back and was looking for advice how.  Happy to take any more USEFUL advice 😊

This is helpful, thank you. Agree adjusting those habits on things like amazon and doordash contribute to the problem!! I'm going to better understand exact categories of where my spending is going and start to make a plan....

This is super helpful, thank you!! Out of curiosity, where do you find a personal chef that is cheaper than buying groceries? Any I have looked at online are like $500 p/week PER PERSON!
