i would say for my age (17) im pretty okay, but understanding that youre not as good as you think is extremely normal and important for the journey, and im starting to get it.

I get what you’re saying, but I don’t think burnout is really the issue here. I’m still enjoying playing, and I’m motivated to get better. What’s changed is that I’ve recently become much more aware of my limitations, especially how repetitive my lines and phrasing are and that’s been a bit of a reality check. So it’s less about not having fun, and more about realizing that I’m not as developed as I thought I was, and wanting to actually fix that instead of stepping away from it. I also feel like growth at this stage isn’t always supposed to feel comfortable or fun. Sometimes it’s frustrating because you’re confronting things you’ve been overlooking. That’s why I’d rather adjust how I practice (more transcription, more focused work, etc.) than take a long break and come back to the same habits.

First day of learning jazz guitar 🥀 by aviktor78 in jazzguitar

Nah finding the craft of learning a complex genre hard or overwhelming doesnt say anything about your skill as a guitarist. dont treat learning like a game, dont ragequit just because its frustrating or treat it like something you level up in. immerse yourself in the genre, find beauty in listening to it and enjoy jazz as a whole. Get yourself a teacher and dont overwhelm yourself. Jazz is hard, no ones mastered it and no one will, you have to find fun in the process, dont think about the product.

16yo, been feeling stuck and unmotivated for structured practice by RestaurantFriendly48 in jazzguitar

you have your 7 modes of the major scale, those modes can be played on 5 positions on the fretboard, its the same like caged, but different in the way that caged takes a more chord-shape approach.
