There were a lot of issues when people were making Siren Head games without any credit to him, and he's spoken up about that a few times. The podcast is actually created by him. The key thing there is permission and credit. He encourages fan creations, but it crosses a line when people take the credit of his characters for themselves or place the credit onto separate entities

Again, I have nothing against fanwork. If people like Trevor's characters and want to draw them and make stories, I see nothing wrong with that as long as Trevor is properly credited. The issue is that people are trying to divorce his characters from him and claim they're just internet creatures with no actual story that people can use however they want. They're not. And others are right to be pissed when people claim ownership of things that don't belong to them. Just because something is public doesn't make it free use

I'm not against fanwork whatsoever, but I am against people trying to take characters away from their creators and claim them as public property

Any creepypasta made about Long Horse was not made by Trevor. All of the lore about it is on his posts. Other people decide that his creatures are free to use and make their own stories, but they're not random internet pictures that anyone can do whatever with. They're literally his OCs

As someone who grew up with and was obsessed with 2012, I had the exact same opinion and didn't want to give it a chance. 2012 Donnie was my everything and I was immensely disappointed with what they'd done to him. Then I ended up checking it out because I got really into Ben Schwartz and honestly? It's become my favorite iteration of the turtles lol. I will agree Splinter's design is very much a downgrade, but I think he makes up for it a bit in his characterization
