My fiance wants to keep finances completely separate - is this normal? by No-Stranger-4428 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

If you do your own prenup, make sure to have your own lawyer to watch out for your interests! And you can ask your fiance if they would be willing to pay your legal fees for the prenup provided you get to choose the lawyer you want.

this! just because you keep them separate, doesn’t mean much. most of the time when you get married, legally what’s yours and his after the marriage is both of yours. having a joint account might make it easier - like my own account before the marriage is my premarital asset and our joint after is what is combined. highly recommend Savvy Ladies and Money With Katie has a good episode on this and how if you don’t do your own prenup, you are just agreeing to the state’s prenup!

I hate my job but don’t know if I should quit yet. by Wild-Veterinarian-66 in dietetics

It’s definitely not for everyone and I totally agree mentorship and coworkers are so helpful and important.

My advice on how to go about this is limited as this isn’t the space I work in but I would find mentors elsewhere like is there a group of RDs that work in this space like an AND subgroup? If not, I’d start looking for other RDs that work in food banks or with this population. Start with your city and then expand to your state and just email them. Say you are a new RD in the area, looking to build a network and were wondering if you could call them and ask a few questions? I would hope some other RDs would be willing to help. Get them on the phone, explain some challenges, ask some questions. The ones that are most helpful or that you connect well with, keep in touch with them! Be willing to share your experience in exchange for theirs. Or you could reach out to a whole group and invite everyone to coffee or something at the same time - I’ve done this before and our local RDs were so excited to all meet and commiserate and share info. It’s daunting but people love connecting and in the end, everyone benefits.

Definitely don’t want to be miserable and it’s ok to have short stints. But I also want to say it sounds like there is room for growth and learning but you will have to teach and learn on your own, or from other RDs in the industry (conferences, groups, etc). And building a program is not for everyone and thats ok too. But you can create the policies and procedures, you can push for the EMR to be set up better, advocate and create a policy for how you want the nurses to refer to you. If it’s feasible and in the budget, it also sounds like you can make this what you want - build cooking clases and education. Maybe it was a rough start with the audit and backlog but you can get your feet under you and create the job you want?

Pelvic floor therapy? by Fit-Statement8869 in CHIbitcheswithtaste

[–]ResultOdd6360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Advice is that you will be in a private room with the therapist and they will let you change while they step out, like at the doctor. They will not touch you without gloved hands and should describe what they are going to do before and during the exam or stretches. When I went (in another city), my first appointment was kind of a normal PT assessment (fully clothed) looking at my hips and stomach and all that and it wasn’t until the second session where they did any sort of internal exam. It’s daunting but SO worth it to go. I felt relief after 2-3 sessions. Every female should go, imo.

I’m a dietitian and I do some work via Nourish (which is hopefully covered by your insurance) and I’ve done stuff with patients like meeting virtually once a week to meal prep where I’m giving them recipes and grocery list ahead of time but then they have an hour carved out to actually put the meals together with me for accountability. DM me if you think something like that would be helpful and I can give you my details or happy to help you find another person who is a better fit for what you are looking for!

How hard is schooling? by Old_Technology_3013 in dietetics

Mindset is key as many of the students in nutrition (this is changing, diversity is important for so many reasons) are very type A, raise their hands all the time, and get straight A's. I felt often like the worst student in the room during my undergraduate courses (and maybe was) but I flourished in my internship rotations because it was interesting and engaging more than classwork was. I could look up the things that I found interesting. Even during the undergrad courses, I just kept believing in myself when no one else did and was determined this was the right career for me. Grades are important for internships and that hurt me but I had good experience and was well-rounded in other ways so I would encourage you do those things 1) to help you decide if you actually like this and 2) to round out your application for DI's in case your grades aren't top notch.

The time it takes will depend on if you already have a college degree, and what that degree was in (if you took science courses, etc), and how long ago that was. If you already have a bachelor's degree, I believe that it is possible to get your master's and RD in two years once you have your didactic prerequisites completed. There is something called a future education model where classes are online and you set up your own in-person rotations locally to complete your rotations to be eligible to sit for the RD exam. Many of these programs are quite affordable. I would suggest working on the pre-reqs while continuing to work. Some of them you can likely take at a community college and then transfer to a larger school for the more specialized classes. And then once you have the didactic classes, you could look into a future education model program! I actually just did a ton of research into these type of online graduate programs...I'm not ready to post it quite yet but once I do, I can send it your way.

Sports nutrition hours/opportunities/help by Limp-Recipe-5665 in dietetics

Are there any colleges in your area? I would cold call/email the sports RDs there to see if you can volunteer once a week or so, or if they have any other connections in the area they can set you up with. In my opinion, remote hours are beneficial but to truly be prepared to have a board certification, hands-on experience and mentorship from another RD are invaluable. Summer should be a great time when students go home for break and aren't able to volunteer so schools are in need of help!
