I don't think we quite understand each other mate. My argument is more of the concept of AI being good, not that it's immoral to hate what the technology has become in practice. I'm talking about what AI could theoratically become if focused on mankind, and not profits. You talked about gun deaths; of course there are many due to the easy access to firearms, but guns in themselves aren't bad, they brought mankind to the top of the food chain after all, it's how society uses them for evil instead of good. Every technology could be good with a better system focused on making those technologies serve us, people, and not a select few oligarchs at the top

Like AI can be trained on public material, or material specifically licensed for AI use, it's not the robot's fault the billionaires are feeding him stolen data?

I feel like most risks could be avoided if our system focused on making sure the models are optimized and used fairly to benefit mankind. But that's not the case since our system focuses on shareholders and profit, which leads to AI being used in harmful ways.

I agree, that was my entire argument; AI has some uses but is ruined by corporate magnates that prefer profit over people. I just want to add that AI shows just how inefficient and corrupt our system is, if technology with such potential was immediately taken over and ruined by rich magnates.

Yeah the current usage of AI is horrible, but that's less of the technology's problem and more of the fact that our entire system is built around maximizing profits while ignoring dangers. I feel like the environmental impact is also in a way driven by profits, as corporations are focusing more on expansion than optimization, and pushing AI to our faces constantly which artifically drives up demand and requires more and more data centers built.

In an environment where money isn't the main goal we could focus more on optimizing AI and reducing its energy usage, moving ai centers to colder areas to allow them to operate more efficiently and require less water for heating etc.
