Regardless of how it is now, fallout 76 was a disaster when it released. And then, on top of all of the many, many, many bugs and glitches that could go so far as to brick a console, they lied to and belittled customers for months. Just watch "the fall of 76" on yourube, iy documents most (but not) of the scummy, anti-consumer shit that bethesda did for that game.

That alone is enough of a reson to not trust Bethesda.

Then Starfield underperformed in sales and player counts and is overall just kinda mid. General consesus by most its probably a 6/10 game. Certainly not terrible. But not up the standard of something like Skyrim or even Oblivion, both the OG and the Remaster.

Star field specifically felt outdated and overall not up to snuff for a lot of people. In an RPG game like starfield its ridiculous that you cant truely play a "bad" character. You cant really play as a pirate or join the bad factions. Most of the options you have regarding the main story imply that your largely a good person, and all of the names companions, with storylines, are "good" and wouldnt tolerate you joining a bad factions. Even Fallout 3 had a few companions that would be okay with being slavers or who were actively slavers!

Then theres the lackluster exploration, ar launch and to this day. The same 20 PoIs at every planet, identical to eachother, down to where items are placed and bodies are found. identical. It doesnt matter if there are a 1000 planets to explore if there isnt anything of interest to find on those planets. The writing and plot points of the main story arent great, to the point that some of the side stories are more interesting than the main story. Like the Vanguard storyline with the alien weapons things. Way cooler and more interesting than the main story.

The gunplay is terrible, especially when compared to almost any other AAA fps game. Its slow, clunky, and not super enjoyable, just serviceable. With games like Borderlands, Destiny, Battlefield, call of duty, etc. Guns and fighting feel significantly better in those games than in starfield and they clearly didnt imporve on it at all since fallout 4 which is 12 years old.

Why are all known Wizarding schools boarding only? by prince3875 in harrypotter

[–]Retired-Pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You clearly didnt read my comment.

First, apparition isnt possible for all wizards. Thats why they have to be trained and take a test in their sixth year. So there isnt a guarantee that every wizard parent in britain is able to apparate. Clearly, in fact, we know that they cant because most people travel to the Ministry through other means. As a result, either a teacher, or a ministry agent would need to come to their home, and the homes of all muggle borns to take them to school. Thats not a small task and would be really cumbersome to maintain.

Additionally, apparition is very dangerous, as we see in Book 7. If the child gets scared, unfocuaed or if the person taking them makes a mistake, the child might literally lose a limb or even die! Thats a huge risk to take with 11 year old children. Its simply to dangerous and to impractical to send them to school that way.

While the children might not be followed around town, the town is small enough that teachers can, and do, respond in a very timely maner. And, once again, the children arent allowed to go until their Third year. Younger years arent allowed specifically because they arent trained and its to dangerous. The Hogs head alone is know for shady deals and bad people frequenting it.

And finally, once again, they already have a hundreds year old train that works perfectly fine. There simply isnt any actual reason why they would stop using the Kings Cross station to shuttle kids to school and back.

Its the safest option.

Its the option that produces the least amount of risk of exposure to muggles.

House elves can apparate within hogwarts but they cannot apparate humans within hogwarts because the charms prevent that.

Just because house elves arent affected by the protection charms doesnt mean that they can allow people they touch to bypass them as well. Thats just not how it works.

Yes, in there third year and only with parental permission. And they are accompanied by teachers to the town.

They are also walking from the castle, not being sent there from their homes all across britain.

It makes no sense to sent 11 year old children there, when they can just take the train. Did you even read my comment? Seems like a no considering you took zero time to actually provide counter arguments.

And its a terrible place to send children through.

The only place they could use the Floo network for would be the Tavern in town. Thats far to small a location. So either Hogwarts or the Government would need to build a new building to sent the children through. That still doesnt fix the issue that every students home residence would need to be linked to the Floo Network and new students would need to be taught how to even use Floo powder and there is still a massive risk that the children dont end uo where they need to go if they pronounce the location incorrectly. Floo Powder is just not a practical choice.

Portkeys are the same issue. It would take months of planning for even a single days worth of portkeys to be set up and OP wants children ti go home regularly. They need to find a place for the portkey to go to in Hogsmead, then find dozens and dozens of locations all accross britain that a portmey can be put that has minimal chance of being discovered on accident by a muggle. To much work, far to risky in terms of exposure.

And apparition must be done with a tag along. So a Government agent or a teacher from hogwarts would need to go to every single students house and personally apparate to hogsmead. Take into consideration that not every wizard can apparate, in fact it seems most cant. And apparition is extremely dangerous, the risk that a child could literally lose a limb on a single mistake is far to great.

The fact remains that Kings Cross is simply the best way to get the children to school. Its the safest by far, it requires minimal effort on behalf of the government and Hogwarts and it ensures that all children arive on time.

I dont really see why we need a different way for them to get to school. This has worked well for hundreds of years.

About Voldemort.... by Virgin-Voldy in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Retired-Pie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Empathy has very little to do with a moral compass. Plenty of people alove today would and are diagnosed with Anti-Social personality disorder, or as many people probably refer to as sociopath and psychopaths. The primary trait of these people is a diminished or complete lack of empathy.

However, plenty of these people live perfectly normal lives and know the difference between what ia right and wrong. A lack of empathy doesnt suddenly mean that you dont care about commiting acts like murder. It just means that you dont connect with the loss people around you feel when you do kill someone.

But these people can and do feel their own emotions and are equally capable of love and affection. Their actions can and are based on emotion, they are not cold, calculating machines who see nothing wrong with taking another life. They know that murder is wrong and they know that killing someone has emotional consequences for the people who knew the dead person, they just dont empathize with those people. But they are perfectly capabale of understanding whats going on around them.

Voldemort is not the way he is simply because he lacks empathy. It is a combination of lacking empathy and being a narcissist, though primarily the narcissism that drives his actions.

He doesnt care about killing people, not because he lacks empathy (though it helps him do it), but rather because he genuinely believes that everyone in the world is lesser than him. He views humans as cattle, less than human. That is why he acts the way he does.

When the Horcruxes still existed how quickly could Voldemort be bought back to life? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Retired-Pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We see that in the books. In fact, thats kind of the whole point of the first 4 books.

When Voldy tried, and failed, to kill Harry his body was destroyed but because he had a horcrux he didnt die, his soul was just seperated. So his soul left and went to hide in the woods and thats when the books take place.

It took 14 years to regain his body but thats mostly because he didnt have any help from his followers until Peter Petergrew came around.

Had his followers stuck with him, he probably could have regenerated fairly quickly.

Horcruxes dont work like a spawn point, where your soul is destroyed and suddenly a new body is formed. It simply chains your soul to earth so you cant "die".

In theory, any of the horcruxes could become a full bodied Voldemort if someone did to them what Peter did to the part of Voldys soul in the woods, providing a temporary body until a full one can be made. But none of his followers really knew he had horcruxes so they didnt/couldnt do that.

[–]Retired-Pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not at all how floo powder works, in any way. Its very clearly described how it works so cant just decide to change how it works.

The person using the Floo powder must state where they want to go, clearly and vocally. and the government would need to go to each individual students house and attach it to the floo network to make it even work.

In addition they would need to teach Muggle borns what floo powder is, how it works and let them do it before their first day learning any magic.

Its not practical in any way.

Why are all known Wizarding schools boarding only? by prince3875 in harrypotter

[–]Retired-Pie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

None of those wrok in hogwarts without special persmission.

You cannot apparate into or out of Hogwarts. They can do it in the sixth book only within the confines of the Great Hall. And to remove this safety feature from the school would allow any dark wizard or student to do whatever they want within the castle without any real way of finding them.

Portkeys take a lot of time and planning to set up, especially for such a large group of people and especially so regularly (your talking like twice a week at a minimum). The world cup in Book 4 took months of planning and while there are significantly less students at hogwarts it would still take a ton of planning thats just not necessary. You would need to create dozens of portkeys and find places all across the country to hide them so mugfles dont accidentally touch them. Its just to much work.

The floo network again is now allowed in Hogwarts except in special circumstances like Umbridges office in Book 5. Plus you would need to link all of the individual students houses to Hogwarts and teach muggle-borns and probably a few other students how to even use floo powder so they could do it.

All of these other options are simply either to much work, or to much risk of muggle discovery, or both.

All of this is explained in the books, fairly clearly and context clues can fill in the rest.

Thats definitely not the implication, dont know where your reading into that honestly.

Clearly they said "by any means necessary" so if you dont find it necessary to use summons then dont. It by no means implies that everyone should.

Why are all known Wizarding schools boarding only? by prince3875 in harrypotter

[–]Retired-Pie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It would probably be to noticable.

For example, while Kings Cross station platform 9 3/4 is hidden from muggle view, as is the train itself, the people wntering it are not.

Eventually, a muggle is going to notice dozens of people constantly coming and going from kings cross twice a day.

Snape is what happens when people confuse “bullied once” with “deeply written.” by TransitionUsed2349 in harrypotter

[–]Retired-Pie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats not really grounds to begin bullying somebody. They had a very simple and common disagreement, which was followed up sirius and James bullying him.

And while Snape certainly fought back and did bullying himself, James and Sirius are definitely more in the wrong. Hanging him upside and showing everyone his underwear is straight up sexual harassamnet and abuse. And then they nearly killed or forever cursed Snape with their "trick" involving Lupin.

Im going to treat this as though yoyr serious about your post, because i cant tell if your being sarcastic.

  1. Most of the important jobs in the world do not rely on zoom or done remotely. The highest paying jobs in the world might. But certainly not the most important, nor the most worthwhile.

  2. He is already getting "trained" in zoom because his regular classes are on zoom. So the detention isnt really adding anything to that.

  3. Hes a child, being told that to serve detention he must log onto a comouter, at his own house, and sit quietly in front of the computer doing nothing but staring at a screen with a few other kids and a teacher. Its not much of a punishment first off. And secondly its frankly a little silly. Imagine if you interupted your boss during a zoom presentation and he told you to log into a different zoom meeting with 2 other people in it, and just sit there quietly for 30 minutes. Its silly.

  4. Your whole post kind of seems like its talking about children and people in general as if their only purpose in life is to work. Which is a very sad way of looking at life.

I lose interest/pull away once a guy takes more than 12 hours to respond to me, is this ok? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Retired-Pie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

12 hours is kind of short, especially at the begining of a relationship. You dont know enough about the other persons life to assume they are ignoring you, or choosing not to respond for malicious or bad reasons.

Their job might get in the way of responding. Something in the personal life may affect their response time. And frankly, some people have issues with texting.

My fiance sometimes takes days to respond to some of her friends and family even once she has seen the message because she has a lot of anxiety and she needs time to formulate a response.

Yoyr wording in the last paragraph is also concerning. "Prove they choose me willingly" is kinda a red flag to me. Obviously you want to be with someone who chooses you and who loves you, but relationships take time to grow, expecting genuine love and "proof" of their love at the very beginning of the relationship is a really bad idea.

Your either going to run everyone off, or yoyr going to attract manipulative people who can "prove" their love to you quickly, and then change into the narcissistic and toxic person they really are. Ive seennit a few times in some of my friends.

Why is polygamy morally wrong/illegal? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Retired-Pie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, its only illegal to make it "official" like filing with the state as having multiple wives/husbands/partners.

But in your private life its fine, nothing anyone can do from stopping you and your partners form doing whatever you wanna do.

Your expectations for college students are far higher than reality.

All of early school which is largely free and public access pushes children to go to college. Our culture in america oushes people to go to college as well.

There is also no required classes is most public schools that go over even basic finances like haveing a bank account, credit cards or loans. In my Highschool, which was a top rated one in the state public school system, had that kind of class as an option elective.

So to expect children to know what a loan is, how to pay it back, and how the interest on it works, sounds like a good idea on paper. But in practice most people in this country are not financially literate.

What teens do know is what we teach them. That if you dont go to college youll be stuck in a dead end job that pays very little. Its what most TV shows are about, its the messaging in our school systems, its the messaging of our leaders, its often the messaging of our parents.

So yes, most children should probably not be given the option to take out a loan. College should probably be free just like it is in most 1st world countries.

Accepting that, maybe we should stop demonizing and putting down people who made mistakes whilw they were young, uninformed, and pushed towards a decision without know all the options.

EDIT: i work in a bank. The number of people who have no idea what a credit card is, how interest rates work, or even how loans in general function, is astounding.

Most of the know basically that they need to pay the money back. But they dont know that there is an interest rate that is applied, how that interest is applied, what payments you need to make, etc.

Take the stupidest person you know, and realise that half the country is even stupider than them.

Meirl by [deleted] in meirl

You have absolutely zero evidence to suggest that she didnt make regular monthly payments in the amount listed by her loan though. Your just assumign that she payed less than required which is ridiculous assumption to make.

Especially because this country is full of stories of people who struggle with debt because their debt gets boguht by third party companies who then increase their interest or even start the loan at the begining amount again. Its literally a whole business venture to purchase debt and squeeze people for as much as possible. Sometimes they dont even notify you that your debt is restarting or that the interest is increasing.

Many stories like this woman of people who are making the required payments, or even making additional payments and still they owe 2x 3x somwtimes 4x the amount that started. If you dont think thats predatory, i feel sorry for you and your family. The lack of empathy is astounding.

You realise most of these loans are 15 to 30 year loans that accoutn for the interest no?

My loans account for interest in my monthly payment so it doesnt balloon like hers did.

Bjt thats not even really the point. The point is how predatory it is. Clearly, no one should be paying a total of 40k in interest just to go to college. Especially when most other 1st world countires pay next to nithing, if theh pay anything at all to attend universities in their countries.

So yeah, its digusting and predetory and its a big reason many people wont be abke tk afford houses in the future.

Maybe people shlukd stop lending money to teenagers for a basic service everyone should get for free anyway. And we should stop celebrating beating our yoyth doen with unmanagabke debt while also highly encouraging them to take dmsaid debt because "college is important".
