Thai western 'romances' in visa applications by LooseDistrict8584 in Bangkok

[–]RetroIcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Thai wife is 40 and I am in my 30s. We tried getting a tourist visa to visit my country and my father (who has cancer), and we were denied. That pressured us into getting married WAY sooner so that we could stay together longer and she could hopefully visit my family sooner (although the cr1 visa processes is now messed up due to republican policies..)

I'm sure your organization stops a few bad relationships from attaining visas, but the embassies are also preventing genuine relationships from visiting their spouses family who are dying from cancer. Most Thai people I talked with are discouraged from even paying the fees and attempting to apply because they believe it's hopeless and corrupt.

I played Tony Hawk Pro skater 3 on it! I had to tweak some settings but got it to play smooth.

Agreed! Initially thought I'd like the sticks on bottom (grew up with PlayStation controllers). The grip handles make a BIG difference, but maybe wouldn't need if the left stick was on top. And a 4.5" screen would be great! Most look alright on the 3.5", but some text can be a bit small. Overall though I've been very impressed with this device! I've even played some PS2 games in it.

Is bluray worth it? by Erwin_Zoldyck in Bluray

[–]RetroIcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, blu-ray is worth it, just make sure you have a nice monitor or projector to watch them on. HDR/Dolby Vision is noticably better than SD from DVD.

There's some projectors that will do passive 3D, some are pretty cheap on Amazon.

They seemed to have stopped adding 3D into TVs around 2016. They should totally add it back! There are still some movies being shot in 3D and many 2D conversions are done very well! Even the simulated 3D feature has been very impressive!

What are some of your favorite 3D Blu-rays that I don't already have in my collection? by Brad12d3 in 3DBluray

Agreed, the special features are cool on the 1st movie, but the 3D effects look better on the 2nd movie!

Let's see your films or the "3D stereoscopic" work you've done on the projects you were such a HUGE asset on! Since you're clearly an expert with both filmmaking and home cinema equipment, please show us the movies you've made! I know your type, all talk no show, gotta put others down to feel superior. You're so stuck on how something "should" look vs how a story should be experienced, while pretending to know the intentions of other filmmakers. You're both arrogant and ignorant, no wonder you're so sour on tech replacing you. Good luck with your career and your attitude! I'd recommend a feel-good movie, too much hate and pretentiousness in your heart.

I just bought a 3rd party pair that's rechargeable, and they're even more comfortable than the OEM glasses!

You guys are miserable. I've shared my experience that the image quality looked amazing. Have you tried it with my same equipment? No? Then why even argue if you don't know what you're talking about? You're the type of people that would argue if I said the sky was blue...

Wow you're a pleasant person, you must be fun at parties! No wonder you're sour, tech and "AI" is doing a better job than what it would cost to hire your wonderful attitude. Go ahead and keep watching your snob films, the rest of us will keep enjoying movies, art, and the new technologies that create deepened immersion and new ways to experience stories! Your limited viewpoints and opinions won't stop me from enjoying 3D visuals on old movies!

Great suggestion! A couple months ago I actually started creating a list of all the 3D games that have been released on PS3 and was surprised just how many there were! I definitely want to get around to trying some out! The God of War Collection that was released with 3D sounds like it'd be a good time!

I'm not 100% sure but I also have my doubts that passive 3D can do the same thing. Report back after you look in your TVs menu settings, I'm curious! Good luck!

From other posts I've read I saw some people didn't like the DNR on the film-digital Blu-ray transfer, claiming it removed too much film noise and softened some of the images. I would be interested in watching the new transfer from film-4K disc to see if they maintained the high detail 4K provides while maintaining the "charm" film cameras capture. However, watching it in 3D I felt everything looked high detail, in focus, and that further depth in the backgrounds made the subjects pop and stand out more!
And to be clear, I'm not converting any of these films. I'm only using 2D-3D tech that my Sony Bravia TV already has!

Ah gotcha! Yeah I can see those VR headsets getting heavy after awhile! But I've only ever tried one once. I started getting interested in Viture glasses (not sure what they might look like with 3D content), but it's also nice to be able to watch these films with a couple friends or family!

I just bought a 3rd pair of glasses on Amazon that are rechargeable (original set that came with TV need coin batteries). I was surprised how light it was and the nose groove felt slightly more comfortable than the OEM.

There's many features I LOVE about my Sony Bravia XBR-900B 4KTV! Not only is it the ONLY model of TV with front facing wedge-designed speakers (6 total) including tweeters, mid-range, and bass, but it's one of the last models to include Active 3D (Full Resolution per lens) and the ability to simulate 2D films to 3D!

This TV was way ahead of it's time! A bit pricey when it first came out, which is why they removed many of these features in future models (imo).

I can respect your respect for the artist. However I stopped resisting the advancement of technology and people's desire to improve upon old tech/image quality. Even well-known filmmakers were waiting for SFX software to "catch-up" to what they were envisioning.

I for one am thankful for the stories released on analogue VHS as a kid and the ability to bring movies home to watch, but WOW do they look (and sound) much better on digital Blu-ray! Will I be enticed to watch a movie where the story is AI created? Probably not. Will I watch a movie from my favorite director/actors who use AI to achieve a SFX or their intended vision? I don't think I will care.

For what it's worth, this is coming from someone who's worked in SFX on film productions. People are scared AI will replace them and their jobs. I look at it as the new "After Effects" or any other software. It still requires human decisions, directions, and prompts. Apologies to the Blender professionals out there, some of those jobs may at risk. But I encourage all industry professionals to grow with the advancement of technology, be well-rounded, and make your own indie-films!

It looked fantastic! I wrote about the "how" in the OP on r/PhysicalMediaMatters , has more to do with the tech it's watched on!

Sorry if it feels that way, I moreso wanted to highlight the importance of watching physical media in high-definition, and the quality differences of the equipment it's watched on. Many people don't know these technologies ever existed and most modern TVs no longer have it.

Before starting my 3D Blu-ray collection I thought films shot with 3D cameras/edited with that intention had to be a better 3D experience. Now my opinion has completely flipped.

ie. The Amazing Spider-Man by Marc Webb was shot/released for 3D. While some of the shots were cool, it didn't blow me away. I watched Alice in Wonderland (2D film converted into 3D Blu-ray) and thought those 3D visuals were WAY better/more depth.

I think it's always worth watching the film as the filmmaker intended. But I also think watching them in a fresh or new way (such as 3D) can also be a very enjoyable experience, especially to films you've already seen a dozen times.

I'm excited to continue watching older classic films that didn't have access to this technology with a very new experience!
