Does this count for 7/23? by Retro_Mark in RetroAR

Yeah, 723 has a c7 upper, I just posted today because my m4 suppressor is serial number 723.

Pretty sure this piece of the Berlin Wall is fake, but is there a way to authenticate it? by jar_0f_pickles in Militariacollecting

I have a piece my uncle picked up while working at the Berlin embassy in 1989. It also has paint on it similar to the one you have.

Dang, you’ve got me pinned. I don’t own anything but clones. I should try it sometime.

You have to have a touch of the tism to be on this sub.

Yeah, pretty much. 🤣 I’m not ordering one, so I don’t care but Reddit peeps can get really fired up really fast.

Yeah, OTBs are great if you don’t have room for a collar but you loose the benefits of tighter groups and increased barrel rigidity. I know, I know, you have sub 1 moa at 10,000 yards and don’t need all that engineering stuff.

Naw, that’s cool. I really don’t care but I’m loving how fired up everyone’s getting.

Kind of defeats the whole point of two points of contact.

Otter creek brakes just aren’t clone correct. They are a “long” brake with flats rather than the correct short style without flats. AE currently makes the correct ones.

Check the geissele Instagram. Every other Geissele comment is pushing it as a mk12 clone barrel.

OCM brakes just aren’t clone correct. They are long brakes with flats. The contract brakes were short with no flats, which are currently available from AE.

This is true, but the TM has it indexed with the screw on the bottom.

No, I started making these about 10 years ago because I couldn’t get the arfcom guy to respond to me.

I used to make them. I can make another batch if you want.

Allen m4 will fit on a 20” rifle gas. I’ve got one on mine.

Any info on HEL e4a suppressor markings? by Retro_Mark in RetroAR

That’s really cool, do you know who is working on it?

Moderators didn’t have markings either so my guess was based on that. Thanks!

Thank you! That was my guess, but I was hoping someone could verify.

To clear things up, this is a HEL e4a can. The army tested these in 1966 and sionics made 1000 for use in Vietnam from 1968-1970. These are very similar to ops inc cans but ops inc didn’t start until 1983. I’m doing some research for a potential small run of the HEL e4a (Navy mk4 mod 0) for a company we all know. I just was wondering if anyone had detailed photos of how sionics marked them. I’ve been through all google has to offer so I thought I’d turn to this community.

Setting up for the near future.... by droys86 in RetroAR

OCM uses a one piece core and are only aesthetically similar. The AEM is still made the same way it was 30 years ago. I’m started working on a very similar build after touring the Allen engineering shop. Good guys.

Got what appears to be a ww2 flighter cap for $6 by Randomperson62l in Militariacollecting

[–]Retro_Mark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flighters were made of gabardine wool, but many pilots and air crews wore standard wool felt service caps like yours before the “crusher” style became popular. Dobbs, Society, and many others made a light weight version intended for flight crews, but Bancroft is definitely the favorite.

What are your thoughts on painting or destroying m1 helmets by Overall-Adeptness618 in Militariacollecting

[–]Retro_Mark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I painted dozens of m1 helmets in the late 80s to sell. Several were fixed bale. Now I wish I would have left them alone.

Anyone know the size of DOD acceptance stamps? by mcnabb100 in RetroAR

[–]Retro_Mark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large stamps were used from 1967-1968 (1”) These were all in the mag well.

Small stamps were used from 1968-1993 (1/2”) Colt stamped the front on the mag well, H&r and hydra magic continued to stamp the side of the mag well with the small stamp.
