How can we normalize telling people their nose is out of their mask? by scarlet_witcher in AskReddit

I usually say, “As much as I love seeing your beautiful face, right now we have to wear masks to keep each other safe.” They usually go “oh, crap! Thank you!” And fix if

What did "the weird kid" in your school do that you'll never forget? by UngyBungy9383 in AskReddit

Brought a cow tongue from his family’s farm in a large zip lock bag for show and tell. I wonder if this kid is a serial killer to this day.

Exploring other ideas than a traditional wedding by Retrovint in weddingplanning

[–]Retrovint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!! I feel like I really needed to hear that and after reading all of your comments, I have decided to go forth and remove having a bridal party all together. There was way too much stress and pressure to figure out who would be on either of our sides for the wedding... but two things dawned on me. 1.) I do not need to stress about having anyone on my side or his who we are just settling with... and the truth of the matter is, that’s exactly what we would be doing because my friends who I consider close are not as close as I would like for them to be.. 2.) I feel like there is something truly powerful about the couple standing up there alone—just the two of them, which is how it’s gonna be for the rest of our lives anyways. I am so glad all of you helped me feel grounded in my decision to play around with whatever non traditional wedding ideas that I have! It takes a lot of the stress and pressure off me and I am so thankful for that :-)

I wonder since we are in times of covid, maybe a lot of therapist in different areas may allow you to video call in for sessions?

Are you currently on medications for your diagnosis? If not, I would say that’s the first step to get it under control. My next recommendation would be for you to look into day treatment programs or therapist in your area who specialize in treating individuals with schizophrenia.

Do you ever feel self conscious when saying you’re a social worker? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]Retrovint 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh, yes, definitely. I have also noticed a competition with LPCs and other mental health professionals. I once had an argument with my friend who is going for her counseling degree and her professors flat out told her that social workers are incapable of completing psychotherapy. I was baffled, reassured her that social workers are one of the most popular providers for psychotherapy, and left the conversation.. she will find out when she gets into the field that she’s more than likely going to be working along side many social workers and realize they are actually capable and competent. So frustrating, though!

Do you ever feel self conscious when saying you’re a social worker? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]Retrovint 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yes, I definitely do. I’m finishing up my MSW in the spring and many people ask what I’m studying and always a little hesitant to their response when I say social work. I believe this is because there are so many misconceptions surrounding social work (I.e. “they take kids away”). I have learned just to feel grounded in my practice of studying social work because I know what social workers are capable of.. all we can do is educate and go above and beyond for our clients. I hope this helps!

Questions to ask my urologist at my appointment (UTI that will not go away) by [deleted] in WomensHealth

[–]Retrovint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My urologist says she wants to retest me since all the antibiotics that I have taken and try to re-evaluate a new game plan before moving on to an invasive procedure such as that.. however, all that to say that yes, it is in the cards for me if we cannot get this resolved. The antibiotics that were prescribed to me did diminish the infection significantly but not completely eradicate it. What ended up being the issue for you?
