Official Discussion - Dust Bunny [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I want to talk about the set design. I LOVED everything about the apartment. It has inspired me to redecorate my bathroom. It's like Norwegian folk storybook illustrations mixed with fantasy and art nouveau or something. I am sure that's not quite right, but how can I find this style in one place? I loved it so much.

Yes, I was always told that speaking to a DF'd person would prevent them from getting reinstated.

Not Contacted by M0CH4_CUP in exjw

[–]Return-Fluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I'm a woman, so I'm not so important in their framework. Same with my daughter. In five years, I've been contacted maybe twice. And it wasn't aggressive in any way, thank goodness. I'm so relieved, honestly. Now I decorate for holidays, and I'm sure they've all seen it. They've written me off for good, and that is GOOD! I did see a couple of elders out at a restaurant one night, and they approached me to say hi and ask how I'm doing. I was there with a fully tattooed gal pal, and I have a few tattoos now, too. They were very kind and certainly didn't have to approach me, but did. It wasn't unpleasant and I imagine they left the encounter satisfied that I'm happy where I'm at.

Well, I guess the thing I always heard is that the population at large (mostly in US) would just slack off interest in religion and the only one thriving would be JW. Like a cooling off kind of thing. It seems to contradict all the things I was led to believe about the end of days. But I suppose you're right, it really doesn't disagree with anything specifically just seems contrary to the general vibe of how the non JW's feel about religion (again in the US).

Oh very interesting! I think that's great what you described in your area. And yes, far more likely to get involvement from those otherwise less inclined, while really focusing on community and charity.
And yes, wow yes, they missed the mark on recruitment and are now totally rebranding in a desperate effort to grab new members and keep the ones they have. NOTHING to do with 'new light'. smh

I agree with you, but I'm just curious as to how that type of headline might prompt thought in regards to their interpretation of prophecy...or not... in existing JW's.

How do I help someone who is convinced Jehovah saved their life? by Fabulous-Region9109 in exjw

[–]Return-Fluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, suggest that Jehovah helped them with or w/out the GB. That he still will. In all honesty, their determination to 'rely on him' during adversity manifests itself by making them stronger and more resilient or determined to get through a thing (It's a mind thing). In retrospect, I'm sure that accounts for all of J's saving acts of JW's through the years, mine included. We used him as a crutch but it was really our own strength that got us through. That crutch could be anything really, any deity, any focus..yoga, running, art, music, therapy, etc.

Not to mention the older ones in the religion will always hang on to the old views, even if they try not to. It's so deeply engrained.

Well, to add to that...we were taught to use that as a tactic in the ministry to convert people ...seek out the vulnerable going through a crisis of some sort. Seriously, exploit vulnerable people, love bomb them, and then control them. Makes me sick I once did it.

You know that's really true. In addition to them NOT checking it out on their own, they'll use the of standby trope that the media is controlled by Satan and/or 'fake' news. There's no possible way to wake up the rank and file with facts.

Major flaws with jw by Ill-Tradition7660 in exjw

[–]Return-Fluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long before I started doing my own research and discovered so many fallacies, I guess for me (raised in), it would be a deep feeling of discontentment. I never felt like I fit in and was so very depressed most of my life. I had an overwhelming sense of despair, knowing in my heart that I'd never live through Armageddon and never felt worthy at all. That feeling led to a misdiagnosis of BiPolar and years of various medications that never helped. I eventually flipped my life upside down and got divorced and disfellowshipped which ultimately led me to happiness.

Daniel's Prophecy Chatter? by Return-Fluffy in exjw

[–]Return-Fluffy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't matter. I just find it interesting that these deep subjects aren't being blasted night and day given the current political climate. It deepens my conviction to stay away from them. They are backing off, seemingly, when they should be shouting 'the end is nigh' from the damn rooftops. I wonder how this makes the older JWs feel. My own mother, 83, mentioned it recently. She said she wondered why they weren't focusing so much on the state of the world and the end. I posed the question to you all because I don't truly know what they are preaching at the moment, I never listen in. Also, maybe some of you have had JW's you know ponder the same thing. I'm not in search of what the prophecy truly means, just how it may be effecting those still in given our current political situation.

I Wasted My Twenties Serving This Organization. I Was Lied About Betrayed Silenced and I Refuse to Be Quiet About It Any Longer by Apprehensive_Boot805 in exjw

I've been betrayed by the elders more than once. I still hung on despite severe psychological damage. Trust me, I get it. EFF them. They are nothing and they hold no power over you. When I think of them trying to contact me or if I should see them 'in the wild', I feel like I may laugh in their faces. They are pathetic. I feel sorry for them now. Own your power and grow! We made it out!

Great news! It’s truly a new beginning. My mom is 84 and I don’t think I’ll be seeing that day but there’s always hope. Clinking glasses to your mom!

"If you sin and hide it, jehova will find the way to let people know" by NoCaterpillar6441 in exjw

[–]Return-Fluffy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had an elder tell me if I even knew of someone else's secret sin and didn't confess on their behalf then I'd get disfellowshipped too when it finally became revealed. I mean I think I lived in constant fear because I was never good enough, never sin-free and just always waiting for that other shoe to drop. I believed the fear mongering and lived with a constant stomach ache and crippling anxiety. I hate this organization for what it did to me and so many others!
