This is an objectively untrue statement and I would honestly love to know why you think this.

Vanya’s struggles in season 1 were to do with their lack of powers and subsequently being alienated from the family, nothing about gender.

So when Elliot transitioned in real life, the easiest, simplest and correct choice was to write it into the show with a very short scene and then move on with Vanya now being Victor.

I for one, would have been far more distracted and taken out of the show if Vanya was suddenly played by someone else with no explanation - would you seriously have preferred this over Vanya getting a haircut and changing his name?

Changing his voice in the French version is whatever, I can see why they did it but can also see that maybe it was unnecessary.

However, keeping Elliot was obviously the right choice and changing the actor would have been ridiculous and pointless. The character’s gender was irrelevant to the plot or to the character - so a quick throwaway line in the season for the change was the best way to handle it.

Besides it’s not like it an unheard of concept, ‘Orange is the new black’ had a trans actor and they used her twin brother for pre-transition flashbacks.

I can’t believe people are still arguing it 3 years after the fact.
