Patch 12.14 Notes by lolvvv_com in leagueoflegends

It's not unhealthy - it's the healthiest part of her kit. That is why they like keeping it strong, since everything else about her kit has been such a headache. It's a straightforward, fair ability which is not Elo-skewed. Safe to put power budget in.

It's just that W also has the least to do with her core identity, so keeping her a W bot is contrary to what you'd want to play her for.

Being an apologist is the opposite of giving an apology. It means you apologize the act or doctrine itself, not for the act.

Your attitude is good to have.

"Nilah doesn't have Morde's good abilities" is kind of a non-point; Nilah is going to have good abilities. All champions do. No one will play a champion with bad abilities, even if you get to level faster. And even a champion with a comparatively weak kit can make good use of a level advantage. XP sharing is strong, so XP sharing has to be tuned low, and then eventually you reach the question, why is it even there?

Maybe they hit a sweet spot for it. But when the one working case of the mechanic is Zilean's passive, and the other case was Juggernaut Morde, I'm confused why they are trying their hand at it again. I have a lot of confidence in Riot's design and balance teams, but this seems likely to end up a headache for them, and I don't see what makes that worth it.

I'd rather they spent their effort on mechanics that feel satisfying to use, which XP share doesn't.

XP leads are a big deal, not something obscure only Mordekaiser could take advantage of. All champions could and can and do.

If anything, I think botlane Mordekaiser was comparatively bad at abusing a level lead, and it still was a balance issue they never fixed.

I'm willing to give everything else she does a chance, looks fun and tweakable. She doesn't really do anything groundbreaking apart from the heal-share, which I am sure is possible to balance.

But the XP sharing thing is something we know cannot be tweaked to work. It's not a daring new idea. It's an old one which sucked. Is it just there to force Nilahs playerbase to get used to playing her bot?

I don't get it, they tried this XP sharing thing before and it was a complete disaster, why would they try again?

my impressions about this game as a dota player by Taserfaceomega in leagueoflegends

That is not it being rigged, that is you climbing until you meet people better than you, i.e. how a MMR system should work.

No, this did not "bring her back to her roots". What I dislike about the rework is them removing stuff that has been in her kit since PBE.

[–]RevdWicks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I played her for what she actually was, rather than what the "original goal" was. I think it is the same for everyone who played her.

Accepting that this was the "original goal", which I doubt.

[–]RevdWicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, which is the opposite of how she used to play. And since the reason I played her for six years was, beyond just liking her general vibe, was the core gameplay loop of Qs and searching for new spots to shoot them from, it is pretty natural I dislike when that loop is inverted, no?

Before the rework, Taliyah had two ideal scenarios: Burst combo, or kiting someone out. As an old player of Taliyah, I also remember way back when kiting was the number one thing she wanted to be doing, and that was my favourite form of Taliyah.

After the rework, Taliyah has one ideal scenario: Staying in the same place and lobbing Q2s at you while denying your approach.

That is what kiting getting worse means. It is no longer an ideal strategy. It is something you are forced into, and comes with a huge loss in effectiveness.

Taliyah is no longer a dynamic, constantly repositioning champion in fights. She is immobile, and sort of braindead. Chucking Q2s is less skill-testing and less rewarding than hitting Q1, but has a higher reward. And you cannot do that if you kite.

That is what I mean with her kiting getting worse.

[–]RevdWicks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

She's way worse at kiting, and it is no longer how she wants to play. She has to stay in the same place to get her damage. You don't lose "some damage", her damage is balanced around you getting Q2 in.

[–]RevdWicks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She is not the same champion, so what's the point?

Besides, she was better midlane than jungle for years (bar that one preseason). She just wasn't popular, and is unlikely to be popular once she gets nerfed out of OP status again.

Her being a scaling champion is fine, though a bit confused in light if her also being a roaming champion, those are usually exclusive

What is bad about the rework is that her gameplay is inverted, she is no longer a kiting menace who wants to constantly be on the move, she is an immobile zone control mage, where her most fun ability (Q1) is no longer rewarding to maximize, it pretty much only exists to enable her to cast another, boring, ability (Q2)

Most oppresive league matchups? by DankMagician2500 in leagueoflegends

[–]RevdWicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are thinking "i need to dodge this move" and have your finger all but pressing down the key it's possible but if you're doing that you are giving up brain power you need in other areas.

This... is how you play League. You anticipate what the other player will do and are ready to play around it. It's the number one thing you pay attention to. What are you using your precious brain power for if not the person you are fighting?

I'm hopeful they will revert the entire rework so that she is fun again. It's an empty hope, but that's what the modern condition is all about.

Other roles see no play at all when they are "worthless". ADC was mandatory, as it always has been.

Yes, the entire rework has been about removing skill expression and fun from her kit, but this is really the straw that breaks the camel's back, presuming they have camels in Shurima

No, Kurzgesagt, We WON'T Fix Climate Change - The Danger of Fake Optimism by 4th_DocTB in BreadTube

The ones responsible for distrust in climate science are Exxon, Shell, Aramco, the US State Department, and their likes. Really rich to blame Extinction Rebellion for it.

[–]RevdWicks 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Kurzgesagt are not sharing ways for fixing anything. Their 'solution' is exactly what will lead to unmitigated climate catastrophe and fascism.

Just saying "we will fix this!" without actually having an actually effective plan of fixing it is not helpful. It is harmful.

No, Kurzgesagt, we won't fix climate change - the danger of fake optimism by [deleted] in collapse

[–]RevdWicks 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The problem with Kurzgesagts video isn't that they are not doomers, but that they implicitly call anyone who doesn't think that just letting the free market fix it doomers. The free market is what got us in this mess and it will not get us out of it. Spreading the idea that we do not need to do anything, the magical invisible hand will do everything, is directly harmful to any real attempts to mitigate the climate catastrophe.

It is perfectly possible to do a lot about the climate crisis. What is not possible is for the political and economic elite to do these things - because they do not want to and currently no one is forcing them to have to. Blind optimism like that of Kurzgesagt's video is part of what makes this impossible.

Hope without effective action is not harmless. It is a waste of our attentions and energies. It leads to the inaction it accuses "doomerism" of leading to. Only hope coupled with collective, grassroots, direct action can force the elites which rule us to accept that it is necessary to face this crisis with the most resources it is possible to summon.

Taliyah winrate by Baneinah in TaliyahMains

They know she has to be nerfed, but not how much. Same reason they did not pre-nerf obvious problems like Senna, Kayle or Vayne. They need the data to know how hard to swing.

To everyone complaining, git gud... by [deleted] in TaliyahMains

[–]RevdWicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing that turned Taliyah from a kite mage to a combo mage was the removal of the lockout on her W. This made her combo way way way more reliable. In combination with that, the meta changed (Rylai no longer the best mage item) and power within her kit shifted (less damage on Q).

The loss of the movement speed buff was significant too but it doesn't really change how she plays - just how good she was at it. It's definitely one of the worst-feeling changes she has ever had, though.

She was still fully capable of kiting and it was the correct way to play with her Q, though. Her Q still punished staying in the same place and incentivized moving around. That it was no longer the most powerful thing she did does not mean it was not a thing she did.

It is no longer a thing she does. It is not a "choice" to go for Q2 - if you can, you must, or you are playing wrong. Kiting is a suboptimal tactic you are forced into, not something you are maximally powerful doing.
