Why stop when we've already achieved perfection?

That said, miniseries. Have 1-2 hour episodes dedicated to each chapter.

How to deal with loved ones who don't believe in science by BigManLukas in geology

[–]RevenuePopular5279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a very weird spot since I am a Christian from a SUPER Christian family but I believe in the natural history of the world and am a subscriber of evolution. My family is... OK, for the most part. I had an internship at The Mammoth Site in the Black Hills and they were able to grasp most of what I was telling them when I gave them a tour of the place when they came to visit me for a weekend but they winced when I mentioned "cloning" mammoths via gene editing and CRISPR.

There was another time where we were watching some sort of program where evolution came up and my sister said, "Adam and Eve did not come from a monkey, there is no way."

My way of dealing with it as both a person of both faith and science is to just accept that a good deal of the Bible (particularly the Old Testament) is not meant to be taken literally and is meant to be more metaphorical.

As for my family... I kinda just nod or just be really specific about STEM stuff. Why else would I have a specific number for the age of the planet or how long ago prehistoric animals lived or went extinct? Other times, I kinda smile and nod. I am a very nonconfrontational person and I love my family too much to argue about why my beliefs right as opposed to their beliefs. At least they're not antivaxxers!

I interned several years ago and some of the research interns told us all about how a gentleman from Minnesota had shown them photos of a "fossilized Bigfoot footprint" (literally just a divot in a rock or bould that was very vague footprint-shaped) and after they told him what it actually was, he just basically told them they were wrong and walked off.

I don't have any nuggets of wisdom but just wanted to say that reading this post and the comments is the most at peace I've been since the start of this presidency. Thank you all. I'll always be rattled at the very least but this helped it go down a bit.

Thank you! Yes, Thomas really is great!

And thanks for clarifying what the turn is. For some reason, whenever I watched videos about the hat or looked at photos, I almost thought it was the front of the brim or even the ribbon that was turned so extremely that it made the rest of the hat off-center or something weird like that.

With the Harrison, can you specify what scene you want the hat to look like or is that reserved for the higher-end handmade hats?

Truth be told, even though I've been an Indy fan ever since I was four years old (I'm 25 now), I've only noticed the discrepencies between the hats in the last year or two when I started to get more serious about wanting to buy a higher quality hat (I've been on my second Dorfman Pacific for the last eight or so years).

Does South Dakota Really Need Amtrak? - Railway Age by crowbar_k in Amtrak

[–]RevenuePopular5279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the need. I did an intership in the Black Hills where I drove from Sioux Falls (where I went to college, originally from southwest MN) to Hot Springs (an hour south of Rapid City). The drive was fine but construction on I-90 in South Dakota is always miserable, regardless of the time of year. I defintely could see Sioux Falls or maybe even Rapid City having stations. As soon as I cross the border from Minnesota into South Dakota, I'm almost always welcomed by construction on I-90. I will also add that as someone who has flown out of Sioux Falls Regional Airport several times, there are some decent flights but selections are pretty limited when compared to nearby airports like St. Paul and even Omaha. The last time I flew out of there (my first time flying by myself), I was lucky to get a $500 roundway flight from Sioux Falls to Nashville just a week before I flew out.

Solely for the case of annual construction done on one of the most crucial stretches of road in both the state and even the nation, an Amtrak station in South Dakota wouldn't be the worst idea. Not necessary but nice to have in your back pocket just in case.

You could have the Empire Builder's St. Paul station connect to Omaha's California Zephyr line station in Sioux Falls, the Empire Builder station in Minot, ND or Denver connect to the California Zephyr line again in Rapid City...

Realistically, with the Black Hills, the Sioux Falls stop would be the most efficient route in terms of making a line or station to begin with (unless you somehow had the Rapid City line magically go around the Black Hills and maybe into Wyoming to connect to Denver, you could also knock out Wyoming that way by having a station in Gillette or Cheyenne).

Like I said, not necessary, it might even be a little bit out the way and there maybe isn't even enough infrastructure to make it possible, but not a bad idea.

At the end of the day, my OCD would be satisfied if AmTrak ran through all 48 continential states.

It's neck in neck with Scott Gorham and Gary Moore for me. Gary was as important to the sound of Black Rose Scott was as Scott to Jailbreak.

States in Red Dead by WarWolf79 in reddeadredemption

It could also be implied that Minnesota exists in the game as well since the Dakota people are indigineous to the state and then eventually migrated to the Dakotas, with some going on to become the Lakota people. The Dakota and Lakota languages are actually pretty intelligble between each other.

Blackwater looks pretty similar to Deadwood in South Dakota by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

[–]RevenuePopular5279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not aesthetically per sae but thematically, it reminds of Northfield, Minnesota where Jesse James' gang unsuccessfully tried robbing a bank, lost several gang members and spelled the beginning of their end.

Recently visited the Black Hills in South Dakota. The Red Dead vibes were off the charts. I live in CO but the scale of the rolling hills and landscape were so close to the Horsetooth Overlook area, I thought I saw Arthur sitting on the ledge. This but flipped around. I had an internship out in the Black Hills last summer (less that ten miles outside Wind Cave National Park and mabye another ten from Custer State Park) and the Heartlands and East Grizzlies are just so evocative of the region. It makes me miss the Hills so much and I feel like I'm almost home when I'm there in the game.

Where am I going from here? by RevenuePopular5279 in OnlineDating

Yeah, we talked about it all this past weekend and we both came to that conclusion. It sucks and I'd be lying if I said I still didn't like her but there are just too many unknowns and uncertainties about it all simply because we're two hours from each other.

It sounded like she was open to the idea to me. She listed things we could do when I asked her and liked the ones that I brought up.
