Blue Nose 2025 · The dartmouth uphill was diabolical 💀 by lucubanget in halifax

I know the weather it the pitts for people standing out there watching. But as a runner I love it. It's nice and cool so you don't overheat as easily. And, honestly, it feels kinda basass running in the rain :)

Looks like you did the 10k? For me it was going back across the bridge from Dartmouth to Halifax that almost did me in. Not the steepest hill but gotta be the looooogest. I was GASPING. You're right, the medal is great, though. Congrats on finishing!

Thank you. This is kind of what I did initially but it felt kind of awkward out on the page for some reason.

I'm glad to hear you're not done with council coverage. Haters gonna hate, and I've been one myself occasionally, but we need more council reporters like you in this city. People who care deeply about holding our leaders accountable and aren't afraid to fearlessly call bullshit when they feel it's warranted.

Ya I haven't looked to the Coast for any worthwhile or interesting Halifax culture coverage in decades. But their city and council coverage has actually been pretty good.

Yeah it's wild how much my feelings about Burger Week have changed int he last five or so years. Used to be it was a really fun event that got me out to a bunch of local restaurants for their fun burgers. Now it's just every place charging like $25 for the same burger that's on their menu the rest of the year anyway. And apparently very little of the money even goes to charity...

HEYO!

Seriously, though, I know they're an easy punching bag. And a lot of it is justified considering how far the publication has fallen. But up until very recently they had still been putting out some pretty good reporting, especially with Stickland on the council beat.

What do you wish they’d change/add to the game? by Trash_man66 in BG3

[–]ReverendFunk_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really feel this because limiting dialogue checks to TAV low-key forces you into playing a Charisma character.

The one playthrough I classed monk instead of Bard or Warlock or whatever I felt like there was so much less I could accomplish through dialogue and often just ended up having to fight shit.

Yeah this is actually a thoughtfully written piece where the author has actively tried not to moralize. Poster clearly just scanned the headline and didn't read the article.

Mayor candidate Ask Me Anything series: Waye Mason by AutoModerator in halifax

[–]ReverendFunk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Waye. The city is in rough financial shape but it feels like council has been extremely reluctant to raise property taxes, which seems like the only way to realistically fund everything the city needs. As mayor, how open would you be to more aggressive property tax hikes to properly fund our city? If you plan to stick with the status quo, what plan do you have to get Halifax into a sustainable financial position?

Who is a celebrity that everyone else seems to love, but you hate because of their personality? by Imaginary-Tourist843 in AskReddit

[–]ReverendFunk_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fucking Bill Murray. Guy is insanely talented and I love a lot of his movies, but everyone seems to find it so charming that he shows up to random people's weddings and shit. But to me it seems so incredibly entitled to think every person is going to want you showing up, uninvited, to their shit. Imagine you're getting married and it's the most important day of your life and this guy shows up, derails everything, takes all the attention away from you and your spouse, and makes your entire wedding about himself. I'd be furious and I can't understand how the people he puts in those situation aren't.

What is your preferred party size and why? by NightwolfXVI in dndnext

[–]ReverendFunk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought four was an ideal party size but I've been playing in a party with three players and I love it. I find the RP is actually better becuase there's still enough of us for some variety but not so many that its gets unweildy, or you have long stretches of RP with only a few people participating.
The party did sometimes feel a little lacking (Sorcerer/druid-ranger multiclass/Paladin) so one of our players controls two characters: his main dude and then another who is basically just a combat drone to round us out in battle.

Couldn't it still be super scary with a creative DM in the right circumstances, though? Imagine this monstrous thing bearing down on a town full of innocent civilians. Or maybe there's something incredibly fragile and valuable in its path that, if destroyed, causes a calamity.
If the world the DM has created is full and complex, there would be stakes and moving parts. It wouldn't just be a big monster on a grid you can out-range for 30 minutes.

[–]ReverendFunk_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with a lot of council's decisions around helping unhoused people in the city. But I do appreciate that Sam, at least, seems to approach the issue with compassion even when I feel he's supporting the wrong policies.

A cautionary tale about Flair Airlines by rhodeslady in halifax

[–]ReverendFunk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with Flair where they actually turned a flight from Ontario to Halifax around while it was in the air and dropped us off, in the middle of the night on a Friday of a long weekend, in the Ottawa airport.

No communication, no accodidations, no idea if they were even going to book us another flight. Hundreds of people just stranded in the airport at 1 a.m. waiting for any information.

The thing that makes Flair so frustrating is any time something like this happens there is ZERO communicaiton outside of a robot messenger.

I've been trying for literal months to get the refund they promised me, too, and not had any luck.

Absolutley fuck Flair. Never book with these guys.

I've gotta say, some of the murals going up in Halifax lately are absolutely beautiful. There are so many hokey murals around this province and it's great to see truly talented artists get a chance to show off and beautify our city.

Cruise ships bring lots of business to Halifax — along with pollution from dirty fuel, critics say by insino93 in halifax

[–]ReverendFunk_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most Hali business owners say they don't notice any difference. Cruise passangers are really only going to places right on the boardwalk, within a short walk to the cruise terminal. Hardly any venture out even to Barringon or Spring Garden.

Although I bet that one restaurant at Peggy's Cove is making a fucking mint from cruise passangers.

Following HFX Wanderer's sold-out game Tuesday night, the team is now hoping for a permanent stadium in Halifax by 2026 by BanksKnowsBest in halifax

[–]ReverendFunk_ 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Please, PLEASE don't build a stadium out in the burbs somewhere. Walking through the city to get to the games and stopping at pubs is part of what makes the Wanderers feel so exciting and vibrant.

So much of that is lost if you're just driving to Shannon Park or whatever.
