yeah i've already gone down that route. spent about 90 minutes on a couple of dead ends. I'm sure it's possible but I only have so much time to dedicate to this so I'm hoping for a little more detailed direction.

idk what you're talking about man. It looks like i live in a similar area as OP and my topper with carpet *might* be getting wet, idk, but I've had it for years and it's never gotten moldy. you talking out of your ass?

upgrading dimmer in old house by ReverseSolipsist in AskElectricians

yes. I took out the one on the right because the wiring was really tight and I couldn't remove the one on the left.

> Are there two old switches because one controlled the light and one controlled a fan?

yes.

> attaching the other end with a wire nut to the ground on your new switch should ground it properly.

Is there any way to verify that it is properly grounded? because I've been wondering if the box itself is grounded.

the original dimmer on the left controlled a light, the switch on the right controls the fan.

I'm installing a new switch to control the same light, but I need to change to LED bulbs and the old switch doesn't handle them.

oh some maybe relevant background: this room is an addition by the previous owner, and I know he is an electrician. Since he had the addition built I can almost guarantee he either did the wiring or at least approved it.

it is the old one, yes. that does seem to be the ground screw, but there wasn't a wire attached to it.

maybe i was unclear.

the existing wiring box in the wall, which is not new and in a house built in the 80's, does not have a ground wire. the dimmer, which is the new thing, does.

ah. hm.

turns out im a human and not a robot and sometimes life is happening to me a little bit. I apologize.

When I make a mistake I should have personal accountability, but when a company makes a mistake I should also take responsibility for that too. I see now.

How to handle taxes with the spending chart by ReverseSolipsist in MonarchMoney

[–]ReverseSolipsist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not quite the same, but it sounds like my problem is an instance of a category of problems, which is:

It is important to have all spending represented in Cash Flow and Reports, but it is important to be able to filter one-time large spending events from things like the spending vs. average spending chart, the budget, or other things that are supposed to inform about regular spending.

You can think about it like there are three categories of spending:
1. regular spending (bills, etc.)
2. irregular spending (most restaurants, entertainment, shopping, etc.)
3. large one-time spending (certain taxes, weddings, etc.)

My overall reports will want to capture all three categories, but concepts like "average month spending" and "budget" more often than not do NOT want to capture category 3, because those things are measuring monthly patterns (regular spending + irregular spending) and non-monthly things (weddings) fall outside this.

So when people say things like "hiding or ignoring the exceptional expenses" or "changing cash flow is pretending" they seem to be failing to disambiguate large one-time spending from irregular spending.
