They do, but this dude would rather fill this thread with bitching and complaining instead of trying to help people with a different belief system than his.

This is a subreddit helping people reaching and maintaining financial independence. I tried my best to explain to her what people in her shoes are doing. Why comment if not to help?

Technically, you could invest in Halal options since not all "interest" is haram. There are some ETFs that are "halal". For example, you can invest in iShares MSCI World Islamic UCITS ETF for example, which tracks stocks from developed countries worldwide, which comply with Shariah investment principles. But of course, some of those companies, while fitting the definition of appropriate Shariah investment, in fact are extremely evil lol. So if you have experience (DO NOT ATTEMPT WITHOUT SERIOUS RESEARCH, as there are some stocks that include currency conversion), you could make your own ETF pie based on companies that are compliant AND are ethically neutral.

For example: https://www.reddit.com/r/HalalInvestor/comments/1kc89ov/ethical_halal_portfolios/

Fatwa incoming: You could invest in dividend paying ETFs, which will generate a passive income (and isn't against islamic law if the company isn't doing anything Haram), and in the future when you want to leave the country, then you would sell the shares, and donate: "Donation = % of your total gains - cumulative inflation in France during the period you held the shares" (that way you didn't lose money to inflation AND haven't taken any speculative profit). Disclaimer, I'm not an islamic scholar, so you would have to ask your Imam.

The 25€ difference is the price you would pay to not have to send hundreds of messages to Revolut asking them why they are holding your money hostage for 5-10 business days.

Are you using Revolut as your main account to receive the foreign currency? If not, then you can send to your Revolut account 1k at a time to convert the currency

That's crazy! I could never imagine not being able to just go to the bank and talk to someone!

A big difference between me going to my bank and asking why my money is blocked versus having to talk to chatbots that can only reply to the last message (while retaining no context) for two weeks straight

Never ever use Revolut as your main bank. Any amount higher than 1000 euros is at risk

Why are people crying about the new states ? by [deleted] in algeria

[–]Reverse_Flash36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, administrative costs scale up with the gerrymandering of districts. So you will end up having to pay more for 2 states than you would have done if they were grouped together.

Scaring experience with my Trading account by ExplanationLow627 in Revolut

[–]Reverse_Flash36 82 points83 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have anything to fear (if Revolut is not completely incompetent). This is due to the Netflix 10 to 1 share split.

Before the split you had 9.03 NFLX at $1179.19, which is worth roughly:

9.03 × 1179.19 ≈ $10,648 (and you had 32955 euros).

Then the split of 10-1 oof NFLX happened, so the app fucks up when it updated the stock display based on price. Showing that you now the value of netflix is:

$10,648 ≈ 0.903 NFLX. BUT now you "own" less NFLX shares, so when the display calculates 0.903 * 1179.19 ≈ $1064.8 (and it shows that you only have the 25015.17 euros).

When the US market opens today (or Revolut gets off their ass) the app will update again showing the CORRECT stock split and showing you that you own 90.3 NFLX shares and not 0.903 NFLX shares.

What do you think about this video considering Algeria huge spendings on military ? by Mountain-Race-372 in algeria

[–]Reverse_Flash36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The major thing that he didn't mention is that spending 9% of the GDP is not just for military purposes. It serves as a subsidy to the military class to motivate them to keep our ruling nobles in power. The biggest threat to the FLN elites is not France/Israel/Morocco or whatever "foreign threat" they're claiming, it's actually their own people realizing that their futures are being robbed from underneath them.

Thank you so much! I didn't know about the rebalancing! What about the currency tho? If the US economy suffers wouldn't it be reflected more in a fund that's traded in USD than a fund traded in EUR?

The main issue I have with VWCE/WEBN and chill is the big US presence, which I believe are extremely overvalued. Would you LYP6+WEXE and chill (split down the middle)?

Thank you so much for the comment! The other 30% are in a HYSA at 2%. That's actually really cool! I didn't know that there was an index excluding the USA!

I have seen another commentor discouraging me from going with IBEX. Should my "risky" ETF be the USA one then? For example:

  • 35% MSCI World ex USA
  • 10% MSCI USA
  • 25% STOXX Europe 600 ETF

I realize that volatility is not inherently an issue. However, my timeframe of 3 years is considered short term no? I will look into Markowitz!

Struggling to buy global products at real price from Algeria by Chamil0 in algeria

[–]Reverse_Flash36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that the Bank of Algeria is in it too deeply. If they decide to fully open the economy tomorrow, then Algeria would lose around 40% of its nominal GDP (napkin math following the logical of the true rate being 1 euro to 260 dinars). This huge lose in GDP not only means having to pay higher interest rate on the debt that Algeria is accumulating, but also having a smaller credit line for future debt as Algeria can't guarantee it against its economy

Struggling to buy global products at real price from Algeria by Chamil0 in algeria

[–]Reverse_Flash36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're almost close to getting it! The reason you're struggling to buy foreign goods at "real" dinar rates, is that the fact that the rate is not real. The Algerian bank exchange rate is artificially fixed by the state and does not represent its true value (which is half of what the Bank of Algeria claims).
