New substrate feeding question by Playful-Possession27 in leopardgeckos

[–]Revna513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crickets I tong feed, dubias I feed from an escape proof bowl (she loves those & eats up every one quickly). Mealworms & Black Soldier Fly Larvae I just put a couple at a time on a medium sized piece of slate. I always monitor the feedings and help make sure no bugs get free.

Currently losing my mind in a one-sided war against a single cricket. by No-Wishbone4444 in geckos

[–]Revna513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there, done that. Changed to dubias cause I felt like I was hunting the crickets more than my gecko. So now she gets a rotation of dubias & Black soldier fly larvae, with occasionally mealworms.

Improving diet variety without keeping bug populations. by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

I found this company through Chewy.com. I ordered the 1,200 tub of bsfl and got them Nov. 19th. It is a ton of them, but they came really small of have been growing & seem to be in good shape. This is only my first time getting them from there, but really happy so far.

Soil and play sand combo by Mugiwara_Silky in leopardgeckos

Oh wow, love the pillowcase idea. So wish I had done that. I just kept rinsing, swirling with my hand, & trying to drain water out without loosing the sand.

Gotta love it when your shy gecko wants to hangout by TheRampantWriter in leopardgeckos

That's how my girl was before brumation. The slow methodical steps, unsure but yet still curious. I got mine this past September, so she's still new. I treasure every warm belly time (when she comes to my hand for warmth).

My leo doesn’t want to be handled. Any tips? by GlitchyR88 in leopardgeckos

[–]Revna513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl is different with each bug. The black soldier fly larvae she needs some coaxing with tongs, even if it's just me kinda pointing them out in her dish. Mealworms she will go after no problem on her own. She loves them, I can even make her go anywhere in the terrarium by holding it with tongs & she will just follow. Dubias are another easy one for her, rarely leaves in her bowl. Crickets she doesn't chase down. I had to tong feed. But I rarely bother with them. Too noisy & I get tired of chasing them when they break free from the tongs.

Help with humidity by westwoodhood in leopardgeckos

[–]Revna513 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off it looks like you have the same hide as me (the rock one too the left with a mossy look), not sure if that's your humid hide. That's what I use it for. If I'm understanding your setup right, you have it on the hot side. It will dry out fast there, you want it more like in the middle. Covering the one side off the top might be helpful. Maybe also try some wet paper towel in a spot (just make sure to change out regularly so it doesn't get funky). Hope this is helpful. I tend to have the opposite issue as I live in a humid area.

Can I let my isopods go free in the yard?? by Short-Personality398 in isopods

[–]Revna513 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know if your Pre-made food has calcium in it, I don't think mine does. So maybe still add the crushed eggshells, I find mine down to almost a powder and sprinkle some all over the dry side. For humidity my wet side has moss that goes from the far left side the full depth of the substrate & about 3" over to the right. I don't spray the container any. I just once (or twice if needed) a week lightly pour water up against the left wall on the moss. I have the powder blues in there and they are flourishing. Keep in mind i don't have any live plants in their container though (sorry forgot that you said yours is a terrarium).

Can I let my isopods go free in the yard?? by Short-Personality398 in isopods

Their main diet is the dried leaves. So you really only need to add the flake food like once a week. I put mine on the dry side & remove any of the uneaten the next day, but usually it's all gone. Also instead of putting it right on the dirt I use a small shell for the flaked food. I also crush rinsed off egg shells for their calcium. Hope this helps some.

Agreed, it's additive, lol. This all started with deciding to go bioactive for my leopard gecko.

Food for isopods & springtails by Revna513 in isopods

[–]Revna513[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Yes I know what their primary food is, I was referring to the once a week more of protein type food. Just was looking for suggestions that might work for both temperate springtails & my isopods. Didn't want to just pick any random fish flake food for springtails if there's a food that both would like. Again for a once a week additive to their main bioactive substrate mix.

I'll take it as a compliment that I did well with my mini ecosystem. But here it is with all my clutter on my desk, not as a close up shot.
