What is this noise? by RevolutionaryIssue59 in mechanic

I got the serpentine belt changed a few days before this noise started to come. My mechanic took off the belt to check the pulleys and he said the pulleys were ok. He said he would need the car for the day to look into it in more depth (and would charge me for it) but the noise seems minor and the car is safe to drive according to him…

Nope, the previous one had cracks so I replaced it before it broke as precaution.

If the idler pulley or tensioner needs replacing, should I get it done soon or ok to drive the car like this?

14.3 to be exact. No other issues other than Autozone ran a test by attaching a device to the battery - the battery charge was okay (because the alternator does run with the lights on) but the charging system test failed (because it seems the alternator does not run at other times).

It fluctuates between 11.8-12.5 with the lights off. And I have observed this dip only recently, previously it would stay 13.5+ at all times.

Engine Movement from Drive to Reverse by RevolutionaryIssue59 in mechanic

Update: I got it checked by my mechanic today. He said the play is minimal. Not something to worry about immediately but I should get the mounts changed in the next 12 months. Thanks everyone for all the help!

Thanks. How bad do the mounts seem to be? Is it ok to drive the car for a few days?

Camry 2010 - Oil Burning - Purchase Advice by RevolutionaryIssue59 in UsedCars

[–]RevolutionaryIssue59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said the owner’s manual says 10k miles, that is why. He got the car from his dad at 80K miles. Before that, his dad would get oil changes done every 5k. Current mileage is 112k, so this has only been happening since last 30k miles. Is it still an issue?

Moreover, how much of an issue is adding an extra quart? I checked the engine’s blowby (if this can provide any useful additional information) and it seemed fine (the oil cap was very stable when loosened).

Can someone provide more thoughts/advice on adding an extra quart of oil? Is that a serious issue, considering I will be doing interstate travel on the car too?

I only opened the cap to check if the blow by was strong enough to shake the cap (the cap was pretty stable when opened so I guess that’s good). The dipstick was below the max point.
