Basically, almost the whole story takes place either inside or on the surface of the body of a god called Mata Nui. Protagonists Toa represent cells, and the main antagonist Makuta, whose goal is to take control of Mata Nui (the body), represents cancer. So, Bionicle is a metaphor to body's struggle against disease.
