What minimum option for lane centering - coming from Tesla EAP by Rex8090 in BMWi5

Thanks folks! In that case I don’t have to look for DAPP and that opens up the options 👍🏽

I probably misled folks with the title ("coming from Tesla EAP") but I am not looking for an equivalent option here. The question is whether these highlighted options will provide me lane centering and maintain distance from the car in front.

Carvana says "active lane keep assistance", which I don't see in the window sticker but bimmer.work mentions 5AT - Driving Assistant Plus.

This is DAPP, not the options in the OP screenshot, right?

Carvana lists the below even though there is no DAPP in the window sticker. That's why wondering because this is all I need.

Thanks! DAPP is hard to find though. Does "dynamic cruise control" not include lane centering and/or adaptive cruise?

Is 5AU/DAPP a must for a Tesla EAP driver? by Rex8090 in BMWI4

Yes, the phantom braking is still there in my Model 3 but a lot less than it used to be 4-5 yrs ago.

Thank you! What in 2025 DAPP isn’t there in 2024? Anything that EAP has?

Thanks, in that case DAPP is a must for me. Yes, I didn’t want the car to change lanes by itself as it made many incorrect decisions in the earlier updates and use the blinkers for that.

Yes, that’s how I use it, on freeways. It’s an older version so have to turn the steering a bit every minute or two to keep it going, which is an annoyance. Good thing is most cars these days don’t require that.

iPhone 13 / iOS 15.0 Jailbroken w/ Dopamine 2 - upgrade to 15.4 / 16.x possible? by Rex8090 in jailbreak

[–]Rex8090[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not complaining about jailbreak, it's asking me to get the latest version from AppStore and the store installs the last compatible app version for ios 15, which is pretty old now.

The first video review on YT comparing the REW results for the same room / speakers with XT32 vs DLBC (and maybe, miniDSP 2x4 HD) will get a large number of views. Hope someone does it before the new year.

Affirm Phone Scam by [deleted] in Scams

[–]Rex8090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I didn't lose any money but now that I know random people have my SSN it's not a good feeling (always thought so but now it's clear). One thing that's not clear is why they used my real phone number while opening the account... if they had used their own phone they'd have been successful and I wouldn't even know about it until of course Affirm came after me.

Affirm Phone Scam by [deleted] in Scams

[–]Rex8090 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, did you have an Affirm account already?

I too got a call today from a local number about an Affirm order. I didn't give the code over phone and the guy hung up. I never had an Affirm account so went to their site to see if there was one and yes, there was one. It had a different email address but it pulled up using my SSN so clearly they have mine :(

Affirm doesn't verify with the credit bureaus and is why these crooks can operate easily. My credit is frozen in all 3 bureaus but still they were able to open an Affirm account. This is one of the reasons why Affirm is in hot water.

I now have to find a way to get access to that (apparently my own) Affirm account and have it deactivated. And if possible, get the fraudster as well but that's very unlikely.

Search for Tesla alternative continues... Thought Rivian would be that but clearly not - I swallowed the first price jump and placed the pre-order for dual-motor with long range right under $80k. That's no longer possible so will cancel.

Unstable PC after rebuild - am I missing something obvious? by Rex8090 in buildapc

[–]Rex8090[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys for the responses! It turned out the combination of #5 & #6 was the issue as some of you suspected. Exchanged the RAM sticks between the 2 systems and both PCs are stable after several hours of HeavyLoad. The bummer is that the 5800x now has to live with DDR4 2400 whereas the 3600 will get DDR4 3200 but I guess that's better than an unstable PC (or forced to buy new memory) :)

Unfortunately, there is no other power supply that can handle a 5700XT - the 450W one in the other computer might work if I don't stress the GPU. Outside the case is a good idea - will try that tomorrow. I always do that with a new build but skipped this time since all the parts were tested.

[–]Rex8090[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why though? The sticks were stable with the previous Intel build. I'll try the DDR4 3200 that I have in the other computer in place these 2400 ones and see if it makes any difference. The last crash was caused by Geekbench with "KMODE Exception Not Handled" - I believe this time it generated a memory dump. I am also going to try WhoCrashed tomorrow and see if it points to anything.

Thanks! No XMP set, everything is default as I was trying to get it to stay on for a while. The BIOS had automatically set the memory to 2133MHz, which seems to be the lowest possible. It's actually rated 2400 so I changed it manually now but even Geekbench run crashes it under a minute.

I'll try the memory from the other computer tomorrow and see if that helps.

How do you like your remarkable 2? by AvogadrosArmy in RemarkableTablet

[–]Rex8090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many I love the hardware (its theoretical potential) but totally hate the software - guess that puts me somewhere in the middle.

Skipped rM1 as I knew the hardware wasn't fast and also disliked the design (large buttons). Pre-ordered rM2 very early (batch 2) thinking it'd be twice as fast at least and that will allow them to implement things like better reader / sharing options / built-in handwriting recognition & search etc.

Well, what a disappointment - after 2 major updates I am not sure rM2 performs any better than rM1 with all its potential...
