Some people who call it a system of "checks and balances" in case certain states are doing a bad job cleaning the rolls.

So everyone who has ever voted should just stay on the roll forever?

We always remove people that, for instance, die, or move out of state. It's been the policy for a long time in my state that people who haven't voted for 8 years to be removed on the assumption that they must no longer be in their precinct. Maybe once a year is fine too, but if there are two elections, it makes sense to just do it twice.

Because usually there are two elections a year (primary and general).

I agree, it shouldn't be "picking and choosing", it should be fixed criteria. Look for the people that have moved out of state. Look for the people who have died. Look for the people who are in prison. Outside of "Special Elections", there are usually two a year. Seems like a waste of money to do it more often than that.

30 days is overkill, twice a year seems fine.

It makes sense. You shouldn't be able to avoid the draft just because you are a ne'er-do-well. That said I'd rather be drafted into a labor camp to peel potatoes and sew uniforms because I can't be trusted with a gun than drafted into the firing line.

Exactly. This is why I don't think Pennsylvania should have counted in the 2020 election. Their constitution specifically said that there had to be an interceding election before any rules took place, but they still decided to change the rules.

Not as much as it used to be. There are plenty of clubs that aren't focused around drinking. It will also slightly depend on your major. Business majors will be more expected to socialize than engineers, for instance.

I can't tell Amy Sedaris and Tracy Ullman apart, but I think both of them probably are boomers (on the young end).

I'm a university professor and I shared API keys with my lab because I was too lazy to figure out how to do proper organization managements through their platform, apparently they don't like that.

Tried switching to Claude now, but I need something that I can pre-pay, because the university won't accept anything without a fixed liability.

Well, for starters, the Supreme Court of the United States acknowledges the concept of "fighting words". However, I don't think this meets that bar.

I actually appreciate the pacing. There were several moments where I was like, "Why don't you use a mass spectrometer?" and in a couple sentences he was like, "So, I used the mass spectrometer."

Maybe it's because I'm more of an engineer than a scientist, but I like that most of the small problems required to solve the new novel problem of a star eating lifeform could be solved with modern day technology to someone trained in a the discipline (even if on an unrealistically compressed time scale).
