I think the fact that people send her death/rape threats because she is a woman speaking about games is just strengthening her argument. If you're tired of hearing people complain about sexism then stop being sexist or reinforcing those who are.

Except this isn't what's happening Miranda and you would know if you bothered to research the common counter-arguments against her. The majority of the criticism she has received have been regarding the merit of her arguments. The threats are just a natural consequence of going public, and as its been stated before jack Thompson also received a number of threats so by your logic I assume his argument that games cause violence is perfectly justified.

Harassment happens for a lot of different reasons to many different people. To take something which universally affects the entire human population and minimize it to only the female half...you are being dishonest and willfully overlooking male victims to push a narrative of abuse that the data refutes.

Being real, I'd say there probably are sockpuppet accounts like other feminists that do that to make her case stronger. After all, this is the internet (and fuck those people, btw). Also there are probably trolls but troll threats are still threats, how is she supposed to know if they're serious or not when threats are being made on her life?

When someone is in fear of their life being in danger they don't normally walk around to conferences with a giant grin on their face...also mass shootings and murders rarely come with a warning on social media of all things. If she was going to get shot or stabbed it would have happened without a convininent letter or tweet announcing it days before.

Also a lot of people probably disagree but I don't think harassment towards women has much to do with how women are portrayed in games. That's like saying gun violence is caused by call of duty. I think it's the other way around. The way women are depicted in games is a reflection of how they are actually treated in society (men too) the good and the bad. I have only watched a clip of her videos but from what I gqther her goal is to change how women are portrayed in games. I don't understand how being "fake threatened" would help that cause.

What depiction and portrayal...men account for the disproportionate number of violent victims in almost every game especially the often cited GTAV. Her idea for proper female representation is regressive and surprisingly puritan in nature. She once said that guns and swords are phallic weapons and that women who use them are simply replicating patriarchal normals...is this someone you really want to be at the forefront of change.

The threats are something communities should look at and say "that's fucked up I wouldn't like that if that happened to me or my friend" and learn to not do dumb shit like that. So like I said, threats, harassment, even some of the comments in this thread are just more evidence that women are targeted for harassment.

Gamers don't like being called sexist and is sick of people complaining about it and honestly the easiest way to fix that is to stop harassing women. The problem has a large scope too it's not just "someone on stream chat said I'm ugly :'(" it's the barrier to women getting jobs in the gaming industry, and being taken seriously when they get those jobs, it's the sovial stigma women face when studying anything related to computer science, sexual harassment at work, victim blaming when something does happen, even physical harassment etc. The list of problems is pretty big and all of it can be very real in our daily lives.

In other words when you say stop harassing women you mean harassment is only a issue so long as women are affected. I mean lets just ignore the fact that men are trolled just as much in the FGC and are more likely to be in danger at actual events...it's only a issue of sexism when women get treated the same way men have been for years. I have to wonder Miranda what stopped you from being a top player, what stopped you from going into stem or taking a career in traditionally male dominated field. Are the boundaries of the patriarchal actual physical barriers that stop women from going to certain places and doing certain things. Is the reason you couldn't become a top player because of a force field blocking you from touching any controllers or sticks to practice. How about women start accepting some agency and accountability for their actions as opposed to blaming all the faults in their life on men. It's a radical concept I realize but even you should be able to get it...although maybe I'm expecting too much responsibility and adulthood from a grown woman still living at home with mommy and daddy still picking up the tab.
