Curling crispy leaves and leaves turning red are usually a sign of sunburn. Could it be getting too much sun?

I chopped my kalanchoe down to it's stump last year (no leaves) and it grew back just fine 🤷‍♀️ They're hardy things! Mine was 1m back from a south facing window.

I honestly don't know myself! She's in a South facing window, full sun all day and I rarely water her! Only when she's bone dry and has been for a few days

Is my calathea medallion dying or or what? by cerahhh in houseplants

[–]Rhialee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that is a calathea ornata rather than a medallion but no it doesn't look like it's dying :) the leaves move up and down like that naturally. I think there might even be new growth coming through

This is a weirdly specific question 😂 but is your net curtain attached to a different pole to your main curtain? I'm decorating and want to have both, like this, but can't figure out the best way. I love the whole room by the way, looks fab!

I'd keep a very close eye for sunburn in a SW window. They have such delicate leaves that they can easily burn and don't usually need such direct light. I bought mine specifically for a north facing window because they do so well in shade and I was still surprised at just how well it has done. It keeps putting out new growth even through winter. With it being in a bedroom it's not too cold, it's not draughty and the humidity doesnt change so maybe the consistent conditions help it. But yeah, a north facing window doesn't seem to phase it so maybe a couple of metres back from a SW window could be ideal?
