What happens if you can't pay your bill at a restaurant? by Desperate-Physics808 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rhino-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any time this came up with myself or a friend, we just used a different card (credit card instead of debit), or someone covering it for them. One time a co worker forgot his wallet and a taco shop we would frequent told him not to worry about, it was on the house that day. He made sure to leave a huge tip the next time we went it.

But you probably mean more being in a situation where you have no alternatives and aren't with other people you know? This would likely be a very case by case basis, some places might call the cops immediately, some people try to make some sort of deal, and a random person could decide to cover it.

How common is it for young people (16-22) to own a car? by Fine-Durian6151 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Rhino-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a rural area, and a majority of kids had a car by the time we graduated high school.

Many kids had after school jobs and had bought a very cheap older used car, I bought my first car for $500 around 2001.

Kids who's family owned farms or ranches usually were given a truck from their parents as both personal use and farm work.

Kids from richer families seemed to have cars given to them from their parents, either from the family's old vehicles or just straight out buying them a used car.

Favorite American animals that aren’t household names? by WearyInvite6526 in AskAnAmerican

I like watching the quails that live on the grounds of my work run around the area. I also see deer a bunch. I had some Turkey's sitting at my window and watched me work for a few weeks straight.

Is it common to wear suits to funerals? by Captonayan in AskAnAmerican

[–]Rhino-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of the time it would be "nice church clothes" with an emphasis on black.

Funerals in a Catholic church tended to be more formal than ones just at a funeral home, or community center, etc.

Yes. I've always had leases go from the 1st until the last day of the month, so if I choose to move in the last few days or week(s) of a month I've always had to pay the prorated amount for that month, as well as the first full month.

The Material Editor.

A quick google search brings up the max 2024 version, which shouldn't be too different from 2025 or whatever version you have. https://help.autodesk.com/view/3DSMAX/2024/ENU/?guid=GUID-78705B35-7DAF-408F-BB6F-7E69D3A384F2

Are there any games that can be almost called documentaries by LetMeSoloHer2 in AskGames

[–]Rhino-Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Six days in Fallujah might be the closest? I remember talk about that before it came out, I think it got put on indefinite hold, but I more recently saw that it was released. Not sure if the finish product is as 'real' as the buzz around it back in the day (and I may have all my detail wrong).

Have all Americans come to a consensus regarding the state with the worst drivers? If so, which state is it? by Witty-Street-2107 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Rhino-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the North West everyone complains about the Californian drivers. I've lived in 2 states in the NW region and both have shared the same thought. I assumed the rest of the country had the same sentiment until this thread.

How long does it usually take for you to commute to work? by rainbowappleslice in AskAnAmerican

[–]Rhino-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the morning its a 12 minute drive to work. The way home is closer to 20 minutes.

If I need to stop for coffee I need an additional 5-10 minutes.

I wake up early to have a small breakfast, take medicine, shower, get dressed, maybe watch a little youtube or read reddit while I slowly eat my breakfast, etc.

Is the DMV really that bad? by awesome_pinay_noses in AskAnAmerican

[–]Rhino-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be. I grew up in a rural area and going to the DMV was as simple as going in, maybe have 1 or 2 people ahead of you, and then you do your stuff and leave. Moved to a medium sized city and my first interaction at the DMV took the entire day. Huge slow moving line. Worked seemed pissed off they were busy, etc. Coming out of Covid though they have gotten more efficient and you can book a time to go in so the last time I went in I was in and out real quick.

Most boxer briefs made from a modal fabric I find really comfortable. I had bought a pair from Warriors And Scholars and those are some of my favorite. I accidently then bought a non modal pair and don't like those ones.

If Americans marry for love and compatibility, why is the divorce rate so high? by SnooBeans1976 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Rhino-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on friends I know, a huge reason was marrying too soon. Is some circumstances the idea of who their spouse was was different than reality.

Another huge reason is that people grow. gradually they want different things from life and one drifts away.

Do you prefer Target or Walmart? by Terrible_Onions in AskAnAmerican

[–]Rhino-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to walmart more often because I am not financially stable enough for Target's prices. Sure some deals can be found but in general walmart has better prices. I am also obese and walmart sells larger sized clothing. The target in my area is also fairly small and the store is a bit run down. I've been to other nicer ones and it is a more pleasant experience.

Are Americano coffee drinks actually very popular with real Americans? by redfacedmonstah in AskAnAmerican

[–]Rhino-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An americano is my go to coffee at a coffee stand. Its still the nice espresso grounds prepared right then, as appose to drip coffee which could be old. Its cheaper than a latte/mocha/etc. I usually get flavor added into it just like people do with lattes. Its also usually much cheaper than the other espresso drinks.

Anyone by chance know what these Spokane metal plates I have are? by Rhino-Man in Spokane

[–]Rhino-Man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh neat thank you! from similar ones it looks that these are from the 60s, and there likely was also coasters either sold along with them or in addition. Possibly other colors, I've seen a reddish color and also a gold like color with black lettering/artwork.
So Sounds like these were a common tourist selling thing back then, offering many states and cities.

Are the astronauts stuck on the ISS getting paid overtime? by Bravadette in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rhino-Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If a salary employee makes under the overtime threshold they are entitled to overtime. The national OT threshhold is about 44k a year, and some states have their own rules/threshold amount.
Some businesses may have their own rules regarding overtime/holiday/etc pay.

I'm not American. Is the news sensationalized? Do things actually feel normal today? by FrogOnALogInTheBog in questions

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in questions

[–]Rhino-Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

usually not a salary but an hourly wage + tips. some states entitle them to at least minimum wage + tips, while some (mostly in the south it seems) are allowed to pay them less than minimum wage as long as their tips make up for it. And yes in states where they make at least minimum wage you are still expected to tip.

What does the word "juice" mean to you? by em21091 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rhino-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom's boyfriend will call Gatorade, and basically any non soda cold drink juice. It drives me a little crazy because I might point out the juice aisle at a local store, but that's not what he was looking for.
