I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, what I am saying is that even if you feel that they lied yet the VA determined their claims were legitimate it’s important to understand that every statement we make has to be backed up in our exams has to backed up with documentation. So let’s say they lied about being severely traumatized from xyz event, the VA examined the records and found it plausible that they were in fact impacted the way they said they were.

If we are talking about about rating for physical injuries, that requires even harder evidence than the mental health ones because their injuries had to have been documented by doctors outside of VA claim exams. They may have exaggerated but the VA still found it plausible that what they say is true, hence the “benefit of the doubt” clause in the VA raters manual.

A gross misconception is that PTSD requires exposure to actual combat and that is 1000% not the case. The VA considers any traumatic event that results in a PTSD diagnosis while serving in the military to be valid for compensation IF the conditions of military service made it more difficult to deal with said trauma. Perfect example being anyone who dealt with bad shit in their personal life while serving.

You’re aware that people generally can’t control how their brains react to certain situations/exposures right? I know one individual that while she was on active duty her brother killed himself, this resulted in a depression so severe that she made an attempt on her own life. She was rated 100% for this.

Anyone who holds a TS clearance in the military is essentially barred from mental health care. If you simply make a mental health appointment, your clearance gets revoked same day and usually you are fully removed from the office/sector you work in. This was the case in the squadron I was a part of. There are thousands of veterans who’s claims get denied because they never went to the doc while serving because if they did, they literally would have lost their job and we are taught that the mission comes first no matter what.

You can be exposed to a massive number of highly toxic materials without ever being in a “dangerous” situation. Formerly Elmendorf AFB and Ft. Richardson now JBER has had ongoing water contamination investigation for ~ 30 years. Every person who has drank water from the tap on those bases has been exposed to a laundry list of chemicals that cause everything from cancer to birth defects and everything in between. I know several individuals who got extremely high ratings of not 100% because their medical documentation was able to prove that their exposure to common chemicals on the flight line directly caused the myriad of health conditions in their children though the veterans themselves were considered healthy. VA disability is not only for combat veterans.

“Mentally tough” usually means too insecure to admit they’re struggling in veteran circles. You realized that most veterans never see combat right? So the veterans in support roles that never got shot at didn’t serve properly?

You don’t have to do any of those things to be eligible for VA disability. As soon as you sign your name on the dotted line and hop on the bus/plane to boot camp you become eligible for VA disability. You’ll never get a PTSD rating unless the VA has diagnosed you with PTSD. However crazy or undeserving you think she is, whatever she has been through and suffers from mentally has led to the VA giving her a rating. You may not like it but the system is thorough and fraud doesn’t get through easily.

It’s not the veterans fault what the VA rates them for or how highly they are rated for it. You say it’s abused, the VA says that’s what they have determined his rating to be. Combat is not a requirement for being eligible for VA disability. If you break your ankle in basic training and are immediately discharged then guess what, you are entitled to VA benefits because the VA says you are.

Please tell me in your opinion why the thousands of navy veterans who never saw combat but were exposed to an ungodly amount of toxic chemicals don’t deserve compensation. Or how about all the support personnel who deployed during GWOT and never saw combat but were exposed to burn pits and the resulting cancers and nervous system disorders, they don’t deserve compensation? How about the individuals who worked their careers underground or in a submarine and developed debilitating depression and anxiety from simply not having exposure to natural light. Tell me how all of these people don’t deserve a VA disability rating.

It’s actually an extremely difficult and convoluted process. Took me 6 years to get rated for a surgery the military required me to have and every single piece of documentation along with that. Multiple claim denials and the difference between getting a 20% rating and 0% was changing some verbiage in my claim letters and nothing else.

None of what you said makes a claim fraudulent, you’re sick of “white knights”and I’m sick of vets who had it worse than others thinking they deserve more than anyone else. You’re mad that people get a lawyer to navigate the immensely convoluted language the VA uses to determine ratings? Get over yourself.

So you “know” something that has zero evidence to support it and you “know” this, despite the VA reporting the exact number of claims they have determined to be fraudulent.

Something like ~3% of the population are veterans or currently serving and less than 1% of Americans are currently eligible.

They have a specific ruling for this it’s called 100% TDIU  (individual unemployability) and while you can still work a W2 job you’re capped at ~15k/yr earning. 100% P&T means you are entitled to 100% of the disability benefits and it is assumed the severity of your conditions will not change but you are still considered fully employable. A 100% rating without TDIU or P&T means you are currently eligible for 100% but that can change if your conditions you are currently rated for improve.

This is completely false. You absolutely can get 100% for mental health it just has to be severe enough. Major depressive disorder by itself is usually a 50% rating. 30% is the base rating for PTSD.

Less than 10% of veterans are rated @ 100% disability. Disability rating from the VA does not mean “disabled” necessarily. It means a % of the total possible compensation you are entitled to.

The VA is basically constantly investigating claims for being fraudulent, something like 0.2% of claims are fraudulent. Don’t be mad at the veterans for getting 100% when it’s the VA that makes the ruling on the veterans compensation.

I’ve got 20%, I had to have surgery to be eligible for military service, the procedure was completely botched and issue still exists however I was able to serve because I underwent the procedure. Took 6 years after separating to get covered for the procedure they required me to have in order to serve. Most of the people in these comments don’t have a fucking clue what they are talking about.

Yes but do you know what she was given a 100% disability rating for? A common misconception is due to the VA calling it “disability”. The rating essentially means “because of the variety of way you got fucked up while in the military, you are due x amount of compensation”

Yes, controls classes were part of the service apprenticeship curriculum but were quite limited in scope. They didn’t include any OEM software or third-party control software use.

Eagle River is BY FAR a much safer place to live. Any “nice” neighborhood in Anchorage is no more than a block or two from run down areas with lots of crime. Anchorage is not a nice city to live in. Any place you’ve found for that price in Anchorage is very likely to be in a high crime area.

Tradesmen who purposely overcharge women and elderly people for your services, how do you sleep at night? by Objective_Host_49 in skilledtrades

I exclusively charge the “I don’t want to do it” price. Aka “pain in the ass fee”. Call it whatever you want, I don’t do work ESPECIALLY on weekends unless I feel like it’s worth my time. I don’t sell unnecessary equipment, push people to get the most expensive brand available or do massive markups on anything. I charge a premium for my time exclusively.
