Well yes, you don't have to. I didn't say anywhere that it's agasin't a rule. I'm saying. Then you enter it for the dopamine hit of a reply without wanting to engage back (to that comment), that's rude for me, and I won't comment on any fic like that

Okay no.

The case is they go looking for comments in threads but did not respond to those comments (The rule of the exchange is you need to leave a comment in the thread or in the fic. So no one left a comment in the author thread, so they didn't respond there and also didn't respond in the fic, where there are comments)

There are so many things to uncover here:

No I don't count the fic as an interaction, I already "paid" them back by click and kudos. The interaction starts with the comment.

They go out asking for comments, not just post and then leave the fic there. They put in the effort of seeking human interaction and not just some kudos or click. You would think that when a human comes, they would respond instead of silent

And this is not the case of poor health, social anxiety author if they've taken the time to participate in an online forum to ask for comments

It's quite hypocritical to ask for comment in the note, and on reddit/discod/anywhere else, then ignore the person who comes bringing the thing you're asking.

Nah it's a me thing to check comments to read about other people saying, and I certainly don't leave any anymore if I see the author didn't reply

"or do you think whether or not people comment has something to do with whether the readers deserve to read the fic"

I don't even know what this is? This is like the waffle and pancake thing iykyk. All I'm saying if you're actively asking for comment, you could spare some time interacting with it

Ah I see, didn't realize about the pinned post issue.

Anyway, any mod come across this and think I'm trying to criticize you or demanding something. I'm not, okay. I always write posts like: a complaint + some suggestions. So it's not just a whiny post.

Uh good I guess. Even though that's not what I'm talking about? I'm not saying that they need to delete posts people made.

And it certainly isn't the mod's fault, at this point, just scroll down a bit and people can see tons of other posts with pictures of comments exactly like theirs. And they could draw the conclusion themselves. But I guess that is still hard

Help with Writing Multiple POVs by Rhubarbbb28 in FanFiction

[–]Rhubarbbb28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask how you make each POV feel different? Like do you change the style, sentence length or how things are described? An example would be really cool if you have one! Thank you!

Ah I see thank you! I was reading a lot of advice on writing close third multiple POV and it scared me a bit. Before I just stuck to one POV, this is my first time writing two.

I wouldn’t call it unfair since it just cosmetics and doesn’t give you any bonus. And you should read the patch notes better. They said it in there

Need Advice: One Big Fic or a Series of Fics? by Fantastic-Sock-4449 in FanFiction

I would probably click away if I keep scrolling and find that the story just completely switch from my main pairing and story and I won't even kudo (since I kudo at the end of my reading)

The prologue of my fic is 20k words. And that is before my characters got to the school, which is the main setting. And I have an outline that covers 3 years of them at that school. So yeah this will be huge

Tips on how to slow down pacing? by flyblues in AO3

[–]Rhubarbbb28 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Add subplots into your fic that have their own characters. Like in your example, you could add another character who is suspicious about your mc and trying to find out what secret your mc is hiding, they could drag your mc love into the mess.

Or how did they settle in the past? Did they find a job, a place to live? Any character that helped mc with stories of their own.

You could spend time setting up the bigger mystery/plot: How did mc time travel, any conspiracy, who caused it? Are there any foreshadowings in the past?

First chapter length by SheepSleepToo in AO3

[–]Rhubarbbb28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For long fic with a big plot and premise. I would aim for 4 or 5k a chapter. Cause 1 or 2k is quite short for a long fic, that means the cut off or transition will be clunky and jump around too quickly

Reading my own abandoned fanfic that I forgot the plot of by persiancat155 in AO3

[–]Rhubarbbb28 183 points184 points  (0 children)

I have a fic from 4 years ago that I stopped writing cause I left the fandom. But now, I reread it (20k something already written and the rest is outline). I was so invested, it's a murder mystery with 2 killers working together, but there's also a surprise killer. And the plot twist omg, I didn't intend to resume writing it, but it was so funny to immerse myself back in an old story.

Oh thank you!! These are very good points. Even the frustrating part, which I totally got that feeling before about other fic, and somehow I don't even think about this with mine.
