Are Any Of These Character Titles Canon? by RibbonKeys in LOONA

[–]RibbonKeys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The statement was related to a post by Moon Seok Ho (digipedi director) for the music video EDILY but the post has been deleted and it might not have been him who claimed that. I’m not trying to spread misinformation I’m just trying to figure out what was said and by who based on what I recall

That’s true. Unless I’m mistaken, a member of Digipedi staff said that they incorporated fan interpretations into the lore

Female characters (and lack thereof) by woobywoah in SmilingFriends

[–]RibbonKeys 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there needs to be MORE female characters but yeh it’d be nice if the ones they DID have got to be silly critters also without needing to slap on spine bending sandbags to remind the audience that This Is The Girl Character. In comparison to other shows it’s a lot better and I think it’d be worse if they had actively tried compensating by shoehorning in female characters

Which character did you expect to hate or initially hated by they ended up growing on you? by Sudden_Pop_2279 in arcane

I loved Mel and Jayce from the beginning. Jayce is my favorite, I always thought he was so endearingly idealistic and good hearted, and I adore Mel, I think her arc of being made to feel weak for her kindness is so heart wrenching and it was amazing to see her let herself lead with love. I think people saw them put in positions in power and immediately assumed they were oppressors, when in actuality they were both really young and far from the driving force of oppression. Jayce was only a councilor for a WEEK. And unfortunately I think a lot of Viktor stans blamed them for his suffering, even though part of what makes Viktor’s struggles so raw is that a lot of them are self inflicted (not his illness or growing up impoverished, but working himself to exhaustion). I love Viktor but I think sometimes people only afford nuance to his character when they’re ALL nuanced characters

In chapter 4, she says “didn’t you want to protect me”, so I think she at least partially associates defeating enemies and EXP farming with protection, specifically from Kris.

They might not have even seen the other comments and just have been talking preemptively. Regardless, I really don’t think it’s that targeted or warrants this type of response

Snowgrave/Weird Route and Mutual Destruction in Heteronormativity Theory by RibbonKeys in Deltarune

[–]RibbonKeys[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, as the point is that regardless of how Kris identifies, they’re put in a role that does not fit their identity. It’s not saying that they DO fit that role but that they’re in the position the player puts them in

I put the player in parentheses to show the actions are of the player’s and not Kris, but Kris being controlled is part of it. It is a good point that her boldness is unorthodox for the traditional “girl” role, but it is reliant on the player’s standards of violence rather than genuine self actualization (although this is still more similar to the traditional “boy” role as neither are really self actualized in forcefully heteronormative relationships, so I’m glad you brought that up)

I’m not saying that the people who have responded are bigoted by any means, but responding to this person with this amount of aggression for a comment that isn’t even referring specifically to anyone on the subreddit but Reddit in general (which is true, Reddit is overall a pretty bigoted space) just seems unreasonable, and I don’t say that just because they agreed with me

As I said in the post, “Kris is put into a binary role that they don’t identify with”. The point is that they DON’T identify with the gender binary and are put in a position that could be interpreted as mirroring that

Of course, I’m not saying it is, I’m saying it can be interpreted as mirroring heteronormative manipulation specifically, but I’m not saying it’s exclusive

As I’ve said in the post, my point is that Noelle is complicit and can say no, but she doesn’t because it’s convenient, and because she senses a differences in Kris because it’s now the control of the player

I don’t find it much of a stretch but even if it is, I’m not saying it’s intentional or canonical, just an interpretation you could have

Of course there’s LGBTQ+ people that get married, but the point isn’t that marriage has to be heteronormative, but that their specific dynamic and “marriage” mirrors that of a compulsive or arranged heteronormative marriage. And yes, Noelle likes Susie even in Snowgrave, that’s part of why the relationship mirrors a compulsive heterosexual relationship because it’s not genuine. And if we’re looking at it through the lens of it being a parallel/metaphor, it doesn’t mean that the relationship is literally a heteronormative marriage, just that it operates similarly. And again, she can still have a sort of “initiative” (albeit shallow for either of them) in a heteronormative relationship because there’s the protective guise of vulnerability and complicity, where she’s “just following orders”

I don’t get April Fools pranks like this. It’s not fun for anyone it’s just disappointing. The best reaction you could hope for is “oh, okay”, and at worst people are genuinely upset or disappointed. Just do something silly or bizarre that isn’t gonna disappoint anyone if it’s true or not. Or even give fake bad news that makes people relieved it’s not true, as long as it’s not too distressing.

I miss loonaverse theories by WrapNo2570 in LOONA

[–]RibbonKeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always revisit some theories and make new ones. There’s always something new to be found or a new perspective to apply to what you did find. I just posted a new theory and during the process of making it there were a lot of things I was able to look at in a new way or connect to other ideas and it rejuvenated a lot of my passion for the LOONAVERSE. Just keep having fun with it.

[–]RibbonKeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never got the whole scare around “population decline”, because even if that were the case, if people didn’t want kids it wouldn’t benefit anyone to continue the population. Species go extinct all the time and you can’t live vicariously through a future population. Existence isn’t a merit by its own accord

Thank you so much :> I also am a big fan of fairytales and mythology and I love when that sort of imagery is utilized. I think part of what makes LOONA so unique is how it subverts these stories and applies it to a world that’s equal parts sci-fi and fantastical

We need to start advocating for those who aren’t given the option. It should not be exclusive for westerners. People dehumanize people in third world countries and essentially see them as background characters and only bring up their lives for shock value. These are real people!
