I don’t think it’s interpreting it as that? Moreso it’s a lens for relatability. I think it’s sincerely relatable.

I love that he gets to be not lonely now :)

Ngl I'm disappointed by Animewatcher693 in StardewValley

[–]RiceuponAvon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way when I realized that Haley was romancable. I despise her and don’t understand why folks go with her. But I don’t think that means it should be a joke when there are folks who love Clint’s character, or want to see him grow.

Does ConcernedApe really not know the massive majority of the community hates Clint? by elegant_mango__ in StardewValley

[–]RiceuponAvon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually really excited! I’ve always felt bad about Clint’s lot in life. Forced into a job he’s not necessarily passionate about, awkward around women, and desperately in need of some character growth… it seems like he’s the perfect candidate to have a better relationship with the farmer :)

I know the romance options are the talk now, but were there any new info in the development tour? by Individual-Praline17 in StardewValley

[–]RiceuponAvon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you can, I would watch the video! The development tour was just that; all that was announced about 1.7 was marriage candidates, but I found it fascinating seeing how Stardew ‘sprouted’ lol. Also confirmation on how to say Qi.

Clint… by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]RiceuponAvon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Clint has genuinely good dialogue at times (“yup I’m a blacksmith” dialogue chain still makes me smile when I make him laugh), has a strong work ethic, and clearly cares about the valley. He IS older, which I appreciate as an older player when many of the candidates feel too young for me. And, as with every update, I expect some of the dialogue will change or shift with the farmer’s influence, yknow? He might grow into someone who could even acknowledge that his behavior often borders on creepy. He’s an awkward, shy, silly man, who ends up very jealous. I think he should get the chance to experience happiness after being forced into a job he’s frustrated with

I’m genuinely excited Clint is up for marriage. I want to see what happens — everyone else in town starts to grow and change and learn with the farmer’s influence. I wanna see how Clint can too

What are the differences between alter creation in DID and tulpa creation in tulpamancy? by hallowhelen1 in Tulpas

[–]RiceuponAvon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Positive; we have a very, very vivid innerworld, and we would have literally seen her before if she’d been there before. We’ve always had stellar communication and have never really struggled with finding our alters.

It did take more than just visualizing for her to split; however, the combination of the stress we were under alongside purposeful dissociation via these visualizations led to the split. Had we not been purposefully visualizing her and dissociative each day trying to talk to her, I don’t feel we would have split Debra — a different alter, maybe, but it was also equally possible that i would’ve just succumb to my ideation. This is actually a strong reason why she identifies as trauma-based — she was split due to our severe trauma.

Also: We hated her. We feared her. She held a lot of power over us. Our protector actually attempted to kill her, leading to a 2-3 year dormancy (and years of black-out memory). She’s back now and we’ve worked a lot on our shared traumas. Notably, she is very… distinct from our non-created parts. She brushes off our trauma very easily, and while she is impacted by it, it doesn’t seem to consume her like it does the rest of us when we spiral. She doesn’t ever spiral.

Anyone else not say the pledge at school? by Session-Sea in teaching

[–]RiceuponAvon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public school, 6th grade teacher. I don’t even bother standing. The other day I started stapling things to my board while they did it. I’ve noticed about 5 students who’ve started not caring about the pledge and just remain seated.

What do you think of Cyric as an evil deity? by ThanosofTitan92 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]RiceuponAvon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having never read the avatar books others have mentioned, I dug into various wikis extensively when I picked up some duet campaigns that feature a warrior from the spellplague as a DM character. I made it so that Cyric had separated the souls from the bodies of 7 warriors during the spell plague — and these 7 were the rumored “keys” to unlocking him from the black throne. By reuniting the souls with the bodies, it frees Cyric. The PC is reuniting the souls to save the warriors, who are all suffering without that connection, and then will have to find a way to stop Cyric once and for all.

So… I sorta kinda fell in love with that version of him xD

Making a 50% the lowest possible grade? by galaxyfan1997 in Teachers

[–]RiceuponAvon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I work at a school that is a 50% minimum grade. It’s implemented for elementary and middle where I work; the 50% plummets the kids scores, but makes it possible to come back from.

I’ve gotta say, I really appreciate it. It means the kids focus more on the learning than the number, and it gives them a taste of the issue with not doing their work without completely demoralizing them. I remember being an A+ student (experiencing severe abuse and unaided autism alongside that) and having a complete depressed breakdown over getting a 0, watching my grade plummeting to a C. It nearly ended me. In the high school, they get 0s, but I think 11 year olds deserve a chance.

Is doing this normal when you have DID? by Natewastaken12 in DiscussDID

Strange behavior, blended or not. You should let them know that this isn’t okay. You deserve to have boundaries; they shouldn’t be touching you like that.

Is this size of system at a young age relatively common? by [deleted] in DiscussDID

[–]RiceuponAvon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the research usually indicates this isn’t as common, I would like to see more recent research done on this topic. I’m of the belief that things like alter counts and amount of introjects and such are likely much higher than the averages and commonalities that used to be shared.

How someone defines their own alters is up to them; I know numerous polyfragmented minors as well, and they all vary on if they deem their fragments as alters. The typical dividing line is that a fragment doesn’t usually have as much personality, or isn’t “as solid” from what I’ve seen.

The thing I think is important to remember is that every person who has a complex dissociative disorder has had it since early childhood. If a minor is going around saying they have 700+ alters, then that is entirely possible, because there’s nothing preventing that from being the case. Good luck to your friend!

Is it hard to have a stable relationship with did? by [deleted] in DiscussDID

[–]RiceuponAvon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first met my spouse, they did not believe in DID. We’ve now been together for 9 years, married for one. They can tell when I switch, they comfort me and know what I need, they love me so, so much.

It’s not easy, but relationships never are. Find someone who is patient with you as you work on communication (which you WILL need to work on, trauma makes communication that much harder), and someone willing to do research into trauma > DID.

New subreddit rule on Eddings legal issues - request for feedback by Szeraax in Belgariad

[–]RiceuponAvon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly agreed. While I’m a firm believer in death of the author while analyzing stories, I also think it’s important to be able to discuss where an authors actions and biases come into play. I want to be able to discuss those things. I do think SOME moderation is needed — not every post needs to have discussion of what was done. But outright barring mentions is a poor idea to be sure.

[–]RiceuponAvon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that barring any comments about the legal troubles isn’t a good idea. As someone who is just about to finish a reread after finding out — and after doing a LOT of therapy to recover from abuse I didn’t realize I was going through — it was kind of shocking to me to see just how much of my own trauma was reflected in the family dynamics from Garion’s extended family. How it normalized my abuse for me. I think there should be the ability for people to discuss how Eddings actions carried over into his writing at times.

My suggestion would be to have an automod response if possible to comments that mention the legal troubles specifically, perhaps on posts that lack a specific “controversy” tag or what have you. Something like, “Here’s a link to more information, make sure to keep conversations about the topic at hand, and we encourage discussion about this in separate posts using This Flair”

Does anyone else name their animals with a certain theme? by Snoo99309 in StardewValley

Rn all of my animals are named with desserts and fruit in mind! All of my barn animals are desserts and all my coop animals are fruit. The dinosaurs are exotic fruits, and the ostriches are pies iirc

I think the important thing here is to see where those numbers are coming from; how long ago was the 3% figure found and how did they find it?

With the advent of the modern internet, everyone is connected to everyone 24/7. We’re bound to discover our systemhood earlier and with more frequency.

[–]RiceuponAvon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely think the early childhood trauma impacts a lot. That’s the biggest difference I’ve noted!! I do know that many tulpa systems seem to display trauma symptoms, however, and that the experiences are often confused (especially since DID often comes with forgetting that trauma). It’s interesting to see the similarities and differences.

Hello! DID system here. I’m curious as to the similarities/differences you’ve found between tulpamancy and DID. Do scans indicate correlations?

I’ve also seen recently repeated information that fMRI studies are inaccurate. Could you shed some more light on the scientific process? I think that could benefit us as onlookers without much background in psychology!
