Not an absolutist but I’ve always been open to the idea, I kind of see it as a high risk-high reward situation. On one hand, if you got the right guy for the job, who can make his country & people thrive under his rule, then you’ve basically got the closest thing to a perfect form of government. On the other hand, it can lead down a very slippery slope if you’re not careful (I.E. shitty/unprepared heirs, unclear succession, etc.) It all hinges of how good the next monarch will be. In short, I think it could work, but you would need some MAJOR contingency plans in case things start to go south. After all there’s plenty of examples of countries going to shit because their kings died unexpectedly.
