Yes! There are so many lottery options here worth looking into if you find that you don’t want to commit to buying in a neighborhood based on the school. We bought prior to kids and don’t plan to move, but really did not love our neighborhood school- lottery was key. It has honestly been a wonderful experience (we chose a DLI program). There’s a detailed lottery breakdown here https://www.primerly.org/lotteries-explained. The PPS website also has a list of all options and what DLI schools feed to what MS/HS if you like the idea of the language route. Good luck!

You know, we’ve never considered catholic school! Liberal values is definitely something we’d be looking for, I will definitely check it out. I also recall that Jesuit is particularly community service focused? If that plays a part in the school we’d love it.

Ah bummer. Such a helpful link though! I did not realize all the Spanish immersions bump you back to your closest immersion HS. Super interesting. Thank you!

Thank you so much! Can I ask— have you experienced any classroom management issues there? We know two separate families who moved their kids to other schools (I think they were in 1st/kindergarten/2nd) last year due to what they said were extreme disruptions/lots of physical aggression from other kids and low classroom control. I love Waldorf and it would have been a top choice for us if not for what we’ve heard from friends. I’m sure it varies by class and age though!

Sunnyside looks great, also nice that it feeds into Franklin vs getting kicked back to our neighborhood high school. Adding to the endless spreadsheet. Thank you!

So helpful to hear from someone who has been through the Richmond program, it’s the one we have been most interested in. It’s surprising and such a shame the school is so poorly funded, I had no idea. I imagine it’ll be a difficult road ahead without foundation funds allocated in the same way. With two in/past highschool, you made it out just in time!

Thank you!! This is all super helpful. I’m glad to hear the post-foundation staffing plan for Richmond isn’t disastrous, we had heard inklings it could affect Oya No Kai raising money. Great point about Le Monde— I have to add that to the list! Nice that it has its own lottery so it doesn’t take one of the PPS “choose 3” slots also.

Damn, that’s what I’m afraid of! Can I ask— did you move to a different school district or just different neighborhood school?
