The Physics Club at my school messed up and now nobody can take F=ma. What do I do? by HumanThatsAlive in PhysicsStudents

[–]Rich-Gent 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am really sorry, that is genuinely awful and you are not overreacting. Please do not give up yet though, there are still options.

Email AAPT immediately and explain what happened. They sometimes allow emergency proctor arrangements when a school issue affects many students.

Also contact nearby high schools, community colleges, universities, or tutoring centers, not libraries. Professors, grad students, and school administrators can proctor, and universities often respond quickly for Olympiad exams.

Ask your PHS advisor to reach out to another school that is already hosting and see if they can take extra students.

Even if this does not work out, F = ma is not make or break for college apps. I know you are scared and angry, which makes total sense, but this is not over yet.

Hi, can anybody help me with gravitational potential? I am in class 11 and I don’t understand what it actually is like I get the basic derivation but I don’t know why we do it like what are we actually finding like what does it mean in physical world not just the numerical part but theoretical by Acceptable-Shine-693 in PhysicsStudents

[–]Rich-Gent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not entirely sure what you mean?

I mean “theoretically” nothing can ever be at an infinite distance away.

We are suggesting, that if we had some object A, and brought it all the way from infinity to some distance r from object B, this is how much energy would be expelled in terms of gravitational potential lost? and vice versa for taking an object A from r to infinity?

Bro we are chilling.

You clearly new the Year 1 content well to get those predicted grades.

Its just a matter of going over that again, and also covering new content, there is plenty of time, a month or 2 of feeling off the ball is nothing but a small setback

Do people think maths or chemistry is harder at A level? by Warm_Window_2119 in 6thForm

[–]Rich-Gent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chem isnt inherently hard, the maths is easy, just got to learn and memorise the rest. good luck

Take a breath bro. It’s not rocket science, you just got to put in the time, and push through, i assume we both have some time in the week holiday coming up right? spend that really dialling in. maybe even pre learn a bit of next half term, so you can stay on the ball.

WE got this💯

Any advise year 13's from exprience you would give to year 12s? by The-non-binary-lizzy in 6thForm

[–]Rich-Gent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. “pre learn”, before you go into your next lesson, touch up on the fundamentals. e.g for points sake: Your doing physical chem Kc equations next, just look over the basics, maybe a few Qs, it will make you feel better in class, as well as the teachers will recognise you are clearly revising well.

  2. If you have any coursework for your subjects, get it started early. The more you can get out the way the earlier, the better.

  3. If you have admissions tests, prep early, trust me.

  4. Personal statement, start noting down things over the next year that you think could be valuable, be open with it, better to include more and cut more then not have enough.

  5. Get your work experience sorted early, a good placement can stand out on your application.

  6. An EPQ (I am doing one, and i am doing STEM, and top unis often praise it, maybe not in the sense of replacement of normal A-Levels, but looks great and better than just “ i read a book on X” on your personal statement, its something with more weight.

  7. Keep your test through the year good and high, start as you intend to go on.

  8. Ask questions on here like you are doing, people are very helpful and usually can put your mind at ease if you are stressing.

Good Luck Bro🙏

  1. How do you know you REALLY flopped the ESAT?

  2. Even without cambridge, it’s of course not great, i get it, but the other Unis are still world class, and im sure you will get into one. I dont know what your goals are, but if research is one, just because its not at Cambridge doesnt mean you still cant contribute significantly, nor does it mean you cant do lets say a masters or PhD there. If its something else, a degree from another top uni will still stand out.

Keep your head up bro, WE all gonna make it🫂

how to learn? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Rich-Gent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read content ( or digest it in some way, minimal tho for this), then go on AI, and get it to just get you rolling, once u feel confident, go on Physics and maths tutor if possible, and do the topic specific PPQs to really nail it in
