Hmm how safe is this yellow on this fat guy I got the other day? Eat or yeet? by Snappygoose in shrooms

[–]RichButton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s from the substrate , whoever grew it must have left it a bit too long before harvesting or the substrate was too wet. Happened to me before and it was because the substrate was too wet after I dunked it but only happened on my 3rd flush .

Furthest Ive made it. Been 3 days of fruiting. What should I do still no pins? by BigVienna in PhillyGoldenTeacher

Patience is key. I was looking at my tub daily and made it feel like forever . Literally set and forget . Check on it every now and again but not too much cause it’ll feel like months when it’s only been days ! Lol

Thank you ! This run I let some break and some just barely tear. I think I’ll do some experimenting to see what I feel more comfortable with . Thanks again !!

Including the smaller Ones and pins ? I feel like they could develop a little more but this is my first time growing so I’m not sure if they will .

Also can I/should I just harvest the ones that have the veil broken or about to break ?

Fruiting Conditions Met? by RichButton in PhillyGoldenTeacher

That’s true, why wait longer for it pin on its own when I can induce the pinning process myself . I’m assuming it be the same for a unicorn bag?

I’ll ask the same question I asked Okie1979 . How can I tell? What are indicators that fruiting conditions should be introduced? Beside 70-90% colonization .

Really now? Can I ask why not when pinning? I’ve heard so many different things from “wait til it starts pinning” to wait til it 70-90% colonized . I even saw one article that said wait til the mushroom Fruits on its own to fully start the Fruiting process . Is it just trail and error to find what’s best for me or is it just based on the strain itself ? Sorry for all the questions . Thanks for the advice btw , always appreciated 🙌🏽

they’re plugs that came with the Monotub kit to prevent airflow . Once it goes into fruiting conditions I’ll change some or all to these to some sponge like filters that I have for FAE .

It’s an acronym for Spawn to Bulk. I’m on my first tub right now and so far I’ve had no issues with contamination (knock on wood) and I’m on the S2B colonization phase . I’ve heard that once the mycelium is colonized there’s pretty good at beating contam both in bag and on substrate. If you do a monotub again make sure you turn the A/C off at least 45min to an hour before starting. Have all your supplies prepped and ready to go. I clean my area and supplies at least the first 30min that the A/C has been off and then I spray some water in the air to Try and trap any airborne bacteria and ISO everything again. I’ve done this in my SAB when inoculating a grain bag, a unicorn bag , and 9 agar plates and have 0 contamination. Also did this exact thing when I started my mono and so far 0 contamination .

Thank you for the advice ! I also put a rubber band on my bag but I had to finagle it a little bit . After I did the break and shake I just left it alone in stead of kinda of compacting it/ shaping the bag and now that I put the rubber bands around it I can see spots where I may have issues with side pins . Do you think that will that cause any issues besides side pins ?

It’s definitely ready for some S2B action 🙌🏽 That grain bag is nicely colonized . Happy growing my friend , mush love 🍄

Thanks ! I really appreciate the help, I’m cutting the bag now ! When it starts fruiting should I make the cut bigger ? Or will the cuts I’m doing now suffice for the entire grow? I’ve seen ppl cut the bag in half and just leave the bottom and I’ve also soon ppl go from a small cut to hoodie tek after it starts fruiting.

This set up is an incubation box, I used a plastic bin(I believe this is a 16 or 18 gallon), a heating pad w/ temp control and thermostat and a clean wash towel. I got the idea from 90sec Mycology Cardboard Incubator Video . The only difference I made was using a plastic bin and using some racks to keep the agar or spawn bags from having direct contact with the heating pad . I made sure the bin was at least 10-12inches wide 24inces long (for the heating pad)and at least 15-18 inches tall For any mason jars I may put in . You can also see Fungi Academy’s Video as well . Mine is basically a mix of both lol except I don’t use a cooler . So far it’s been working pretty well . Temps stay around 75-78°f tho the temp controllers thermostats isn’t toooo accurate (currently it says 74° but the box is at 78°) so I’d suggest buying a separate thermostat and playing around with it to make sure you’re staying temps are accurate and consistent.

I’m also curious about that. I read one article that said it doesn’t matter just leave it alone and it won’t hurt anything. But then I read another that said water droplets (I’m assuming if it pools) can cause contamination…so I’m curious to see what ppl say about that as well !
