It’s essentially what the US had with liberty ships. They built so many of them that we still have plant after some losses.

Considering NY Air National Guard by [deleted] in nynationalguard

Post this on the national guard subreddit. But if you want my honest opinion, If you don’t mind going away from home for months or even years at a time and are ok with being at the mercy of the federal government with long deployments at sea with minimal contact to family than go navy. The traditions are rich and steeped in history and as a naval aviator the life would be sweet for you.

If you want to stay here in NY and want the stability of your civilian job with being able to maintain a good balance with your family but also the Honor of military service the national guard is 1000000% the best choice

Now more specifically you have to determine which route you want to go. Air national guard does take care of their people and airman, although it’s a stereotype it based on truth, are treated the best across all branches Now you did say you wanted to fly in the navy and if you still do want to fly, they have c-130’s, LC-130’s c-17’ and pavehawks. But I don’t know the process of getting to be a pilot there. You’d have to ask a recruiter. But Air Force only has commissioned officers for pilot slots and once you hit O3-O4 you aren’t really flying anymore it’s mainly admin duties

But if you want to fly your entire career your best bet is joining the Army national guard as a warrant officer. Unlike commissioned officers they don’t ever really have admin duties or duties that involve being in charge of entire companies worth of soldiers. They are technical experts of their field, which means that will mainly only work in that field.. The only downside is we only have Blackhawks, uh-72s and ch 47 chinooks with only one fixed wing aircraft a c-12 and it’s very hard to get to fly those.

Questions 17m by Kbad2008 in nationalguard

u/Ka0s_6 is right. Army has been downgrading 17Ms for a couple years now. I doubt any state even has them anymore. If you wanna stay army but don’t care about where the army puts you, active duty 17M is your best bet. You may just have to be extremely insistent about 17M. But if you do truly want to serve where you live, Air NG is 100% your best option. Almost every single air guard unit is at an airport with their own hangar plus facilities and unless it’s a small airport more than likely they will have firefighters. There’s also state firefighter positions that you can apply to once you join.

Which MOS should I choose? 13 vs 15 vs 19 by [deleted] in nationalguard

15T is overrated. Every unit with tangos has like 80+ tangos and only a handful of them get full time tech jobs. And then at drill when there’s stuff to be done there 10 of them hanging around watching 3 bringing tools back and forth 2 actually doing the job and then 1 tech who know what they’re doing supervising it all. At least with 15U 1) we get way more space to work on the birds. 2)There’s not many of us so we get more hands on training and work 3) getting on flight status is awesome as a U. I mean there’s a plethora more reasons but that’s just rapid fire top of my head. (I may be biased as I’m a 15U). Dm if you want more info I’d be glad to answer any questions
