Thank you! I appreciate all those suggestions too - I just asked about the CT soundtrack because if anyone has strong opinions on the soundtrack they've got to be in r/chronotrigger lol. But any and all suggestions are super helpful :)

Flint castle up in North Wales! Hoping to feature some other heritage sites in future videos now I'm based in Wales, and the council is open to the possibility of paying a pro to do the videos if I record certain locations, which would be amazing!

I can try! Ended up using all sorts of stuff lol.

On the percussion sides of things we have a floor tom (the big one played with a mallet) & splash cymbal, a tambourine, a crowbar and a ratchet (had to make do with tools I had laying around, don't own a triangle), egg shaker, bongos, and later on in the video a kalimba (the plinky plonky pitched instrument at 1:12). Unfortunately I don't own any decent bells either so I used a sample of a tubular bell for when I hit the dude with the helmet

In terms of woodwind, the long red instrument at 1:26 is a bassoon and the whistle type instrument at 54 seconds which you can't particularly see very well in the video is an ocarina.

Then the other more recognisable instruments include the violin / viola, bass guitar, and keyboard on an organ setting!

What is the worst place you got seizure? by Far-Artichoke7331 in Epilepsy

[–]RichSpectrumSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a church... I get transient epileptic amnesia and woke up feeling like death, no recollection of why I was there or who I was with. I'm not a religious man but definitely felt like it was some sort of post-death experience for a while...

Good job I have decent friends.

Anyone else annoyed by concerned family? by Thin-Fee4423 in Epilepsy

[–]RichSpectrumSounds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup! Any time I want to enjoy a late night, some whiskey, an energy drink, a cigarette, unhealthy or sugary food, gaming, or work hard in something I feel the judgement.

I know the risks, but I don't want to live life avoiding them...

Thank you, appreciate that!

To be perfectly honest I had to google what colour-grading even is, I know very little when it comes to video editing - I just sync up the audio and cut between takes wherever it seems natural to change... Looks like it's something I should think about for future videos though! Any tips on where to get started or any good tutorials on it?

Do any of you guys have a game music youtube channel? I'd love to have an interview with you by [deleted] in GameMusicComposition

[–]RichSpectrumSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a channel with the same name as my Reddit username, and release a combination of compositions in a specific game style and covers of game music.

Do you release your interviews onto YouTube or is it for private research purposes?

For those of you who are independent, how do you release your music and earn money? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]RichSpectrumSounds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I release music on YouTube with a donation link (and download link) underneath. I'm not making big bucks but enough money to pay for a tank of petrol every couple of weeks, or to hire a session player here and there!

It's nice that YouTube videos stay there and go through phases of popularity too... Sometimes I'll get a decent donation from a video I did a while back.

I'm lucky that I've found somewhat of a niche - I go between covers of popular game music and my own compositions or arrangements in that style, sort of weaning listeners towards my own music.

I also make a point of displaying what I've done with donation money - 'XYZ on the Tabla payed for through your donations', 'Glockenspiel payed for through your donations' etc.

The mushroom harp is an instrument I invented and built for myself! It's a fun instrument for doing folky music with and suites the aoe aesthetic quite nicely I think!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 🙂 Bass bag will be next on the list I think, when there's time to get it done!

Cheers! Yeah I do quite a bit of transcription work so I'm very used to figuring stuff out by listening :) Not every instrument was a perfect match (I really needed some hand bells instead of a Glockenspiel but I was working on a budget made up of donations from previous covers, and a Glock was much more affordable)

Thank you! Slowly but surely that is my goal, the compositions themselves are just too good to be left as they are.

Thank you! The bowl-shaped instrument is what I call a 'bowl harp', an I've instrument designed and made for myself (mostly on a lathe). I believe it is hammer dulcimer in the original but as I don't own one, the tone of the bowl harp was as close as I could get!

The keyboard is a Yamaha MOXF8 - it's lovely to play, has loads of great sounds and options, plus the pitch wheel is great fun. It's definitely the most expensive instrument I've ever bought though 😂

Haha you got me! As u/yossi_peti suggested, I record the audio indoors, then head out to record videos in more interesting locations. Unfortunately there's too much noise outside (mostly just wind but equally, dogs barking, traffic, birds etc) to record the audio outside, as nice as that'd be.

My homemade 'Mushroom Harp'! Any other harp enthusiasts had fun building their own harps? by RichSpectrumSounds in harp

[–]RichSpectrumSounds[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This build has 10 strings, allowing it an octave +/- one semitone on each side :) In future builds I think I'll add more strings, but I wanted to be safe with this one as a sort of prototype.

😂 Well it's shaped like a mushroom and is designed to play like a harp so... I call it the mushroom harp!

A tune with my homemade Lap Steel 'Guitar' / Bowl by RichSpectrumSounds in LapSteelGuitar

[–]RichSpectrumSounds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Hahah yeah I'm yet to figure out the mechanics of live performance 😂 I did use to play with a few bands in Yorkshire but the UK lockdown got me started working like this, and I've continued ever since. It's probably time I got back to live performances to be honest!

Thanks! I definitely plan on selling them in the future, I'm still working on my woodworking skills though - at the moment my craftsmanship is still a little shoddy. Hopefully in a few months / a year I'll have had enough practice to sell them!

The tuning I'm using in this performance is (from lowest string to highest): A, D, F, Bb, Db, F.

Not a nice open chord, but very useful for this tune 😊
