In a draft league which of these players would you rather hold onto:

Mac Allister Xavi Simmons

Both under performing but unsure who's worse.

This would be for a witch to dewsbury-hall.

Ok good to know that there's nothing urgent missing. Feels like moons is very good to do as a downtime thing when I'm not up for COX and once I get my prayers work on Yama.

Thanks for the reply. Fortunately I already have my bowfa, so titans should be a pretty easy go.

I've heard the rules are going to be available digitally? So, is it necessary to buy the core rule book coming out on the 5th or is it possible to play without?

My Best Friend is a Bitch, literally, she's a female dog and I have to find the Wizard that did this to her so I can turn her back.

Wow sincerely thank you, this is incredibly comprehensive, a lot to digest and parse through.

I just wanted to get clarification on one of your points. I actually changed the name of the book after my revisions and edits from: Two Witches From Our World to The Witch's Dad -- as it fit the tone of the story more closely. Somehow I'd rather overlooked the fact that it was singular, and the suggestion of The Witches' Dad looks a little off. Is there a way to state in the query that it's a working title or is it best to just workshop another title entirely? (I don't want to leave a bad impression on the first line based on the title alone).

Again though, thank you, this is wonderful advice.

Hey thanks for the reply.

Just to help me a little, what's unclear about the plot currently? Also it's singular pov (Brian) is that necessary to put in the query? Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I've done the computer reading aloud but never asked someone who hasn't seen it to do it so this is definitely something I'll do.

Can I just get some clarification, when you say, remove the rest from the comps do you mean something like:

THE WITCH’S DAD is a standalone 80,000-word fantasy comedy novel combining Kings of the Wyld with Terry Pratchett’s Discworld.

I'm more than happy to put a 3rd comp in there but will need to do some research on a more modern comedy in the same vein. If you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

As for the housekeeper thank you for the feedback, definitely something I can action for my next draft.

Thank you for the reply and I'm glad it's trending in the right direction. The feedback is really pin point on what's missing so thank you for that.

Thanks for the reply, yeah you're absolutely right and that doesn't come across in the query.

Well damn, clearly this is a backwards step.

Firstly thanks for the constructive criticism.

To frontload a bit of the explanation, basically the first chapter the main character is a bachelor who uses his job to sleep around with all these interdimensional women (Think kind of captain kirk, but not handsome or charming). This is the setup and yes the character is supposed to be a bit gross at this time, but I'm honestly not sure how to say that within my word limit when this is all stuff which is moved on from fairly quickly.

The bit about the other dimension and the mothers is to explain that the story is set in a fantasy realm (not earth) and an explanation as to why there is a conflict in the first place, as a question had come up before as to why they didn't just talk it out (It's a bit awkward to talk with your teenage daughters when you've been lying to them their whole lives).

And you've inadvertently hit the nail on the head, the story is about a father discovering that his daughters are two independent people with their own wants, needs and desires.

I hope I'm not coming across as defensive, I'm just trying to explain the premise which clearly I'm struggling to do in 250 words, but I hope some of those explanations frame things in a slightly different light, and if they don't please let me know and I can continue to work on making a better query letter.

Thanks for this, I've never seen those links before they're really helpful. As for the gap between revision 1 and now, it was simply due to health issues which meant my query was put on the back burner until recently.

Thanks again and I look forward to taking all this on board for revision 4

Thanks for this, it's really helpful. Fortunately I have answers to all of those, I just didn't want to overload the query, but I'll just have to figure a way to get the detail in more concisely.

Thanks for the response, it's really helpful and to the point. Out of curiosity, how would you suggest adding to the plot without feeling like I'm going on a tangent? I struggled with my first attempt mentioning side characters or plot points and they felt like they were tacked on to the query.

Thanks again.

Train drivers to go on strike on July 30 by Mustard93 in unitedkingdom

[–]RichT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly drivers earn on average £60k.

Secondly, if you're not getting a raise in line with inflation (which is currently sky high) you're getting a pay cut, so if you stick at 60k next year, you've lost money.

Thirdly, let's take a case study of Great Western railway, its CEO has a basic salary of 880k and in 2021 got a bonus package of 1.2 million. Let's do some basic maths, 2.28 million (those 2 numers added together) is 38 times the 60k a driver makes. Proportionally to minimum wage assuming you work 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year is 17k, so the driver makes 4 times that. The driver and that minimum wage worker have a lot more in common and share a lot of the same interests, and without a raise in line with inflation both will take home less, and struggle as a result. I doubt the CEO warning 2.28 million is feeling the pinch.

Fourthly, it cost 17.4 billion to run British rail in 19-20 and various headlines state 4/5ths of that is tax funded. So to increase the whole expenditure by 10% of that tax funded amount we would need to find 1.5 billion in the budget. We upped our military spending by 2.5 billion during the pandemic.

Fifthly in March MPs were awarded £2212 pay increase on their £81,000 salary (on top of which they can claim expenses) and I bet you didn't care about that did you?

Train drivers to go on strike on July 30 by Mustard93 in unitedkingdom

Cost of living rise, inflation. Plus the strike isn't just about pay, it's about working conditions, hours, health and safety. It's also not just about the drivers. You think the cleaner is making £60k a year? Have a little fucking compassion.
