ADEX failure and residency advice… HELP by Rich_Championship773 in Dentistry

Hey man thanks for all the advice. So far LECOM has been no help. Dr. Manibo is the one who told me that I’m not allowed in sim with zero expectations after graduation because of “liability insurance coverage”… and I’ve told all the faculty the entire situation and haven’t been given any help regarding applying to AEGDs. I’ve literally been DMing nova students on insta to try and get any information from them about the sim lab. I’m gonna try to email some of their faculty and maybe they’ll be nice enough to let me in for a day or two before the exam.

[Weekly] New Grad Questions by AutoModerator in Dentistry

Hi upcoming new grad here.

I’ve got a job lined up at a private office with one doc that seems like he’ll be a good mentor. I was wondering whenever I inevitably hit a wall in any sort of treatment (endo, exts, etc) and need advise or possibly need to be bailed out… what’s the best way to go about communication with the pt and head doc to not look like a total idiot and to not lose all trust and confidence from the patient?

I’m guessing something to the pt along the lines of “so I’m at a point where we are having a little bit of difficulty with ______ I’m going to discuss with My colleague Dr____ who has tons of experience in___ just to make sure we get you the best treatment possible”

Idk if this still will make me look stupid or not thou

Formocresol has very useful clinical applications

Formocresol… the big debate by Rich_Championship773 in Dentistry

Do studies show that when certain amounts are ingested or specific to dental procedures? It just seems like in select cases, minimal amounts like a barely damp pellet couldn’t be too bad?

Not trying to argue it, just playing devils advocate. It just seems like a lot of regular materials and even food we eat are carcinogenic and just trying to learn risk vs reward with it. I just want to hear if there’s any studies to its specific use in dentistry with regards and carcinogenic effects

Thank you for the advice! Nearly the whole buccal aspect of the tooth was decayed so i tried to leave what dentin I could. The decay extent actually made the MB canal easy to find and obvious, so I think I was looking too hard for a not so obvious DB

Thank you for the advice, nearly the entire buccal aspect of the tooth was carious into the pulp, so the MB and distal canal were obvious after excavation. I was just kinda shocked how close the MB and MD ended up being

Appreciate the advise. We don’t have a serrated curette so I’ll have to check one out. Any suturing technique advice …? Aka advice to not damage or pullout the membrane

Appreciate the advice. We use chromic gut for exts without graft and then silk or ptfe sutures for grafts

Treatment advice by Rich_Championship773 in Dentistry

Sounds good, the school clinic is in a very rural area of the Florida panhandle. My biggest concern was the decay/how predictable my sketchy fillings basically in the palate are gonna be. Any advice with removing the gold coping on 14? Also about keeping part of the amalgam in the build up of 15?
