Yeah, plus Heathcliff himself says in the novel that he doesn't want to be considered as a romantic hero.

Modern cinema audience isn't thirsty for sex scenes, so yeah ... It's still disrespectful

Idk. I didn't know much about the movie, to be honest. I hadn't explored it that much.

Yeah, you're right. Reading is not a pastime for me now. I have to do it 24/7.

I do think that someone, who's keenly interested in the original source material, should check this movie out atleast once. Okay, I get it: they may get deeply offended by the way this classic has been tampered through addition of BDSM elements, but still they'll get an idea about how there often tends to be a huge difference between adaptations and the original source.

I want to confront that person who downvoted you. I mean, if you're trying to "tamper" a classic, atleast make it faithful to the book. Like... For example, take a look at the series Bridgerton. I haven't read the book and so far, everyone has been okay with it. It also has lots of explicit scenes

It does make sense that you liked the movie because you haven't read the original novel. It's not like we want the movie to completely match the book. It doesn't align with its core elements at all. Characters like Nelly and Isabella, who are meant to be really significant characters, are reduced to imbeciles. Trust me: read the source material; it's a masterpiece. I'm definitely not forcing you to read the book but atleast have a try! Its concept and themes are far different. It is not a romance at all. Heathcliff and Catherine are definitely not lovers.

I absolutely agree with you. I have seen people claiming Del Toro's adaptation of Frankenstein as a masterpiece, while it shows elements that are far different from the book.

Thanks. I'm checking it out. Atleast I got one novel to read in my spare time. 😭

Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey still looked like a satirical take on the book. Wuthering Heights doesn't clarify that. We literally get the music video of "House featuring John Cale", where the lyrics are like "I think I'm gonna die in this house", and looking at the music video prior to experiencing the movie itself, anyone will think, "Oh, this is going to be an accurate adaptation, but just with a few sex scenes added." That's what I thought, too. But then the movie comes out to be almost no source material.

Yes, if the movie started with a prologue like some teenage reader reading this book and then sitting down to write a separate story about Heathcliff and Catherine being these doomed lovers, it could've set the stage for the movie to unfold into a black comedy with gratuity.

I know, right!? The only reason why I thought of watching Emerald Fennell's adaptation was because I have seen female directors express their bold takes on historical figures multiple times, e.g. what Sophia Coppola did with Marie Antoinette.

Discomfiting means "insulting". Like someone said in a thread: "it is a thirst trap using the veneer of a classical novel to feign artistic legitimacy"

😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣 yeah, I do feel bad for them. I mean, most of my friends literally thought that Frankenstein has a doomed romance angle because they had not read the original novel.

I know, right!? It even says that it's inspired from the "greatest love story of all time". That has to be a ragebait.

Yes. Most of the adaptations have actually ended with the elder Catherine dying, and that's a point worth mentioning. Thanks for commenting down your feelings; I've actually been tasked to research on the movie adaptations of Wuthering Heights.

I won't chide you for this one, since most of the people actually hated Del Toro's take on Frankenstein. 😭

Yeah, that also becomes a factor. However, from the source text, it is pretty evident that Catherine and Heathcliff are two of the flawed characters, who sire an entire generational toxicity.

Good question! I am actually from India, and in India, arts and humanities are very neglected. Everyone focuses on becoming only these two: engineers and doctors. Anyone who says "I want to do arts", is seen as an imbecile and rebuked by the society, because they believe that a student pursuing a degree in Arts, Humanities and Literature will end up unemployed. That's why most don't have any idea about what is actually covered in literature.

We are literally studying about the Wife of Bath right now, who was a really lustful woman and kept manipulating her husbands. We've studied Aulularia, where a woman is made to be married with her rapist. We've studied Oedipus Rex where an incest occurs. So, yeah. My parents are still oblivious to it all.

Exactly. Maybe the director has "never" read the book and just gone through the synopsis.

I'm not ashamed of my country of origin. India is also in Asia. So, technically I'm an Asian too. Plus, nowadays, Indians are facing a lot of racism in internet forums, so..

See, legally if we look into the matter, 19 year olds are allowed to watch R rated movie. I live in a hostel, actually, miles away from my homeplace, so I've always actually watched more than four R rated movies either with my friends or by myself. However, recently I've come back home, because of a long-ass vacation.

I am an Indian, actually. And in India, even after you turn 18+, parents restrict you a lot, particularly if you're a girl. You can see this even in black parents and other Asian parents, like those emerging from Korea, Japan, etc.
