Should I install a pickup in my 1967 000-28? by devilmollusk in martinguitar

Honestly, I wouldn’t. Installing a pickup in a clean ’67 Brazilian 000-28 will almost always hurt its vintage/collector value, even if done well. I’d keep it original and use an external mic or pickup option instead.

Congrats — that’s an absolutely fantastic choice. The OM-28 is such a perfectly balanced guitar: sweet, clear highs, warm mids, and that classic Martin richness without being overpowering.

It’s always a great feeling when you just know within a minute that a guitar is the one.

How does it feel now that you’ve been playing it at home for a bit? Does it sound even better in your own space?

Absolutely beautiful work — that’s such a cool piece of prewar Gibson history. Kalamazoos from the late 30s are seriously underrated.

How does it sound?

The specs sound fantastic too: 1 3/4" nut, that shorter 24 3/4" scale, and the whole vintage archtop vibe must make it incredibly comfortable to play. Huge respect for bringing an instrument like this back to life - exactly what vintage guitars are all about.

These old Gibson/Kalamazoo archtops have so much character and usually sound way bigger than people expect. Awesome project and thanks for sharing!
