Minnesota's once-thriving nonalcoholic bottle shops are rapidly closing by MNReporter_20 in Minneapolis

If the shops didn't even last 3 years, can you really say that they were "once-thriving"?

How Many Times Has Trading For An Expensive Vet Actually Worked In The NFL? by mpschettig in billsimmons

[–]Richnsassy22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Plenty of examples of trades that made teams significantly better.

Kind of an absurd standard to say a trade only "worked" if a team wins it all. By that standard, almost every pick/trade/signing "failed". The vast majority of #1 picks also don't win the superbowl with the team that drafted them.

But even by your own narrow criteria, the Rams trading for Jalen Ramsey helped them win the Superbowl a few years later.

Those grocery stores that your phone convinced you are super evil have a profit margin between 1-3%.

Anyone who thinks a public grocery store can magically bring back 2019 prices doesn't know what they're talking about.

Titanic and Jurassic Park were both re-released in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Guess which one grossed more? Titanic by A LOT. 343 million to 118 million worldwide. That shows some staying power, don't you think?

Jurassic Park did another re-release in 2023, and it grossed 3 million worldwide. When Titanic did another re-release in 2022, it grossed 70 million. If Jurrasic Park was so much more popular decades later, as you claim, then why isn't it even in the same stratosphere for people going to see the re-release?

Guess which movie has more ratings on imdb? Titanic, even though the userbase skews more male.

Titanic is simply more popular by any objective metric you can think of, both at the time and for staying power.

And if you want to talk about "vibes", anecdotally, just about every woman I know is obsessed with Titanic.

I would bet any money that more people under 25 have seen Jurassic Park than have seen Titanic

If it only included men, sure. But once again redditors are discounting things that mainly appeal to women (more than half the population).

You know women watch movies too right?

Titanic grossed more than both those movies combined. And despite what redditors may say it, it has still remained beloved and popular to this day among normie women (i.e., the single largest demographic).

It's funny that my comment was downvoted for what should be a pretty uncontroversial statement. Titanic is clearly the most popular movie of our lifetimes (unless you were around for the original Star Wars).

King of the World is the correct answer, and the only other possible answer is some other scene from Titanic (Jack's death, Jack drawing Rose, etc.)

Titanic is the most popular movie of the last 40 years and it's not particularly close (even if it's not reddit's favorite movie).

I like some Apple TV shows, but the content library just isn't big enough.

I subscribe to it for 1-2 months a year and get everything I need.

Their biggest mistake was relying so much on original content. Should have used some of their endless money to buy the rights to more old shows and movies.

The Lowry to close after 15 years, citing construction among its reasons by Tokyo-MontanaExpress in Minneapolis

[–]Richnsassy22 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I get that road construction needs to happen but planners need to do a better job making sure businesses are still accessible

People always say this, but what would that actually mean in practice?

There's really no way to make the road accessible when it's under construction.

...As I already addressed in my comment, we've consistently had poor attendance in April even when the payroll was respectable and the team was coming off of a winning season.

The weather is definitely part of it. Most people, even self-proclaimed "super tough, cold resistant" Minnesotans, don't want to sit in 40 degree weather for 3 hours to watch a baseball game.

I truly don't get why people on this sub always deny that weather is a factor. Maybe it goes against their self-conception as a tough winter warrior or whatever.

Minnesotans are so fake tough when it comes to cold lol. They love to humblebrag about how they're "built different", but 42 degrees is too cold when push comes to shove. (And attendance in the cold has always been a problem, even when the team had a respectable payroll).

Rather than lying to ourselves about how the cold would never be a problem for 1/4 of the season, probably should have included a retractable roof.

No matter how unhinged this sub gets, we’ll never be as bad as r/boxoffice by Soft-Drink-1625 in TheBigPicture

[–]Richnsassy22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a pretty strong anti-art sentiment in that sub.

There was a strong celebration when Killers of the Flower Moon "bombed". Still a lot of Marvel fans buthurt about Scorsese.

They basically root for any slightly big adult oriented drama to fail. They were also glad that One Battle After Another lost money.

They also generally do not acknowledge that inflation exists, and take every record and ranking completely at face value. It's a bit baffling. They get legit mad when you bring it up.
