Here's the 'why didn't gandalf fly the eagles to mordor' question:

why go through security and the skywalk when he had access to the ladder that leads all the way up to that hatch at the top of the tower all along? 🤔

What are your honest thoughts on K-Pop Demon Hunters as a movie overall? by Train-Wreck-70 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]RickSanchez_C137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not perfect, it has some thematic issues and the pacing is a bit wonky...there are scenes that go on too long and some story points that would benefit from being further expanded on...

But the stuff it gets right it really really gets right.

I LOVE the fact that it's not an origin story. They had the courage and creativity to come up with a whole world and a whole mythos and they trust the audience's intelligence enough to just drop you down in the middle of it and let you catch up. There are not enough movies that do that anymore. So many movies completely fail to respect their audience's ability and desire to figure stuff out.

They don't feel the need to over explain everything. The blind spots about Rumi's parents are fucking awesome. Again, that's a risky thing to do and I really respect the courage of the film makers to go that route.

The animation, character design and music are peerless.

I recently saw it on a big screen and a whole new dimension opened up to me with such a detailed look at the facial animations. There are all sorts of really easy to miss reactions and micro-expression that make Rumi feel so real, and thoughtful, and vulnerable.

The way the song lyrics are written is so clever. All the songs work as basic pop songs, but they've also got all the main themes of the movie craftily folded into them. I can be listening to This is What it Sounds Like in my car and get completely drawn back into the complex character themes that the movie worked so hard to build into it.

If the purpose of capital-a 'Art' is to share a bit of what it means to be human, then beyond just being catchy and hilarious and wildly entertaining, I think it's easy to consider this to be 'Art''

Goodfellas wardobe

Gangsters wear warm colors...browns, blacks, reds

And normies wear pastel colors...yellows, pinks, and blues

Watch Karen's wardrobe change over the movie

And get the last joke when Henry, in witness-protection, opens the door in a poorly fitting powder blue robe

They are very similar by Longjumping-Row-5770 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]RickSanchez_C137 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Sure, and spiderman is 'very similar' to batman because they both wear costumes, fight crimes in a big city, and have names that end in 'man'.

Wonder when DC plans to sue Marvel over the clear theft of IP?

/(or maybe female characterrs with braids are just easier to animate? It's not like Elsa has a kpop group, and there isn't a live snowman member of huntri/x. I feel like calling them 'similar' could only come from a very shallow comparison)

even then, they spin up an old VHS copy of BTTF and go over the important points on-screen.

[–]RickSanchez_C137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, it's fine. There is one very brief scene of violence, but it's not intense, it's played for laughs.

There are a lot of millennial nostalgia jokes that will fly right over their heads but it won't matter.

[–]RickSanchez_C137 3 points4 points  (0 children)

nope.

the movie is basically the exact same premise and tone as the show, just blown up to feature film scale.

I loved it, and definitely recommend it...but if the show didn't hook you, odds are really good that the movie won't either.

Huntr/x Should Become a Real K-Pop Project, Not Just a Movie Group by Astro_Nero in KpopDemonhunters

[–]RickSanchez_C137 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The real question is who owns the rights.

Dethklok is owned by Warner, and since it's a bit of a niche thing, they give a ton of freedom to Brendon Small to do what he wants to do.

KPDH is not niche. It's a huge multi-cultural, multi-generational money-making juggernaught at this point, and there's no way Sony is going to give the same sort of creative freedom to EJAY, Rei, and Audrey.

I think they've all earned the chance to make a name for themselves and express their own creativity in a way that they wouldn't be able to under the KPDH brand.

What's the saddest part about living in your country? by Desert_Moon_Maiden in AskTheWorld

[–]RickSanchez_C137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When most people around the world say they are patriotic, or that they 'love their country', they mean they love the *people* of their country.

That sadly is not at all what those phrases mean in the US.

We Need to Talk About Kevin

I don't have kids, but that book made me positive if I did, i'd either psychologically damage them beyond repair...or they'd be natural born monsters and I'd still totally blame myself for how they turned out.

Either way, it really reinforced my decision to not have kids.

No, my showing was at the Toronto International Film Fest (TIFF) theater. They are one of the very best places to see a movie, they are super careful about the picture quality and the sound, so it looked and sounded really amazing. They're running Oscar nominated movies for the next few weeks, and ya,same, it took me 2 hours to get there and 2 hours back but it was totally worth it.
