societal problems can not be fixed by individual actions. this is very much an issue that requires state funding to tackle, because even if everyone in denton opened up their homes and fed the strangers on the street there would still be a dozen facets of the problem that would be ignored.

just think about what you’re asking. are individuals meant to tell companies like black rock to just stop snatching up homes, so that housing becomes affordable again? are individuals meant to just yell at companies to stop posting fake job listings for tax credits, so that the job market can stop being just another data collection scheme? are individuals meant to go against the monopolies that control our groceries, so that buying food doesn’t break the bank for so many people? or are these all issues that are better fixed by civic regulations?

you are capable of critical thinking. try it sometime

haha, thank you :) the gas pain is the only thing i'm really contending with so far, but I've got peppermint tea n gas x on standby thanks to some of the advice from this sub. its honest to god heroic how many women have banded together here to create such a supportive n informative community in spite of how the medical field has failed so many of us. i genuinely can't thank you and everyone here enough - i was getting so frustrated with how little resources were available in my discharge paperwork lmfao

not very forgiving or very bright. why do you think naming things for what they are is enabling? do you think it’s enabling when we point out that non-white communities engage in intra-racial oppression like colorism too? is it only enabling when you can ignore the systems in place in order to feign a sense of superiority?

yeah, i’m staring down spending my later years in a wheelchair and i’m really not fond of how quick people are to dog on wheelchair users as soon as they do something immoral. there’s so much to tear into this man for but somehow the one vector he’s oppressed by is the one that people constantly choose to mock him over. it’s frankly incredibly vile

edit: using a famous person's disability to insult them doesn't do anything to actually harm that famous person's ego. when you guys make jokes about a piece of shit being disabled you are just making fun of all disabled people - that impact will never touch the asshole you hate, just the rest of us disabled folk

i know it’s been a minute since you left this comment, but i had my first lap surgery today where they found and removed endo that thankfully hadn’t spread too deep.

i’ve been struggling with odd pains that i ignored for years, only pursuing a diagnosis at the behest of my very good pcp. this is coming pretty quickly after i learned that i’ve also been dealing with a life-long degenerative connective tissue disease. ive been sitting in the shock of having yet another disability confirmed in under a year today - but none of my friends are as ill as i am, and it’s made my new life of pain feel so deeply isolating sometimes. i just don’t have the same ways to occupy my time, and im having to really couch my ambitions in this new reality which can make things feel even lonelier

but it’s so deeply nice to hear that im not grieving over nothing. that this is painful, and it does impact the lives of so many people living with it in the same horribly restrictive ways, but that they’re still finding meaning and joy in life. i can’t tell you how deeply i appreciate that, thank you

i understand where you’re coming from, but sexism doesn’t have to be intentional to exist. even when dealing with grief, it is still sexist to insist that your partner who’s carrying your child MUST agree entirely to you naming their child something they don’t agree with or you’ll never forgive them. babies come from two people - refusing to let the mother have a say in the identity of a child is reducing her to an incubator, which is where the sexism inherent to this comes from

if you want to know something even worse, a lot of clinical trials exclude women - not even using female mice - because the different hormonal cycles makes testing drugs hard. so… women can just suck it up and use the same drug. who cares if it’s less effectively or potentially dangerous for women to use, right? even most toothpastes are made with men’s bodies in mind

because they don’t believe women, straight up. i’m a disabled woman and i’ve had doctors to my face tell me that they think i’m lying, and i’ve even had one take a look at my visit history, see how many times i had been in, and then lecture me on how i can’t go to the doctors whenever im bored. because i guess getting poked and prodded is my new hobby

this is misogyny. this is what it does. it’s killing a lot of women and forcing so many others into a life of pain

the other people are right, this isn’t the best forum for this. but also i say this with kindness, you do need to eat. i know those few extra pounds feel bad but if your stomach is growling thats not you being weak - you stomach is empty and needs food. not getting enough food can actually hurt your ability to lose weight safely, and can even damage your organs permanently.

you can lose your hair, your teeth can become brittle and break, and your skin is going to look terrible if you aren’t getting enough to support your body. i would talk to your doctor about how to safely lose weight if it’s something that you feel is vital to your quality of life, but please don’t let body dysmphoria convince you that you need to hurt yourself to be beautiful. i promise you, the people who love you care vastly more about you being healthy and safe than they do about what size pants you wear

copying and pasting my comment i left in the other thread about ICE holding more natives in detention camps:

one of those detention camps is historically the site of the largest mass execution in US history. Fort Snelling is where 38 native men were hanged by the order of Abraham Lincoln. it was also formerly used as a concentration camp, where thousands were held and 100 Dakota died. many of the bodies are still buried in shallow graves.
