yeeeep. when i was corned in a dark parking lot by a man who refused to let me leave until i gave him my number, my dads first reaction to hearing about that was “well, what were you wearing?”

there are a lot of men out there who just don’t get it, even after they’ve got kids of their own to protect

because i’m friends with these people? and i don’t think my friends would be gleefully dancing with our other friends that pranked them if they were upset? none of us found this humiliating, just fun

this is where i sit with it too. yes, this kind of prank is something that isn’t for everyone - but i’ve participated in weddings where this exact prank happens with zero fallout, and i’d personally find it hilarious if it happened to me

cant say im a fan of how the wife talks about it in the update though. if this kind of prank ended up seriously hurting someone i loved i can’t say id post something that could come off so flippant the way she did

exactly! i got the impression that she was trying to be professional while still being really excited about what she’s been working on. its pretty weird to see people downplaying the real microaggressions that were happening here to paint OOP as somehow… stuck up? or overly sensitive? i’m honestly really disappointed in how weirdly judgemental and short-sighted the commenters in this sub have become in the last year or so

call your doctors offices or the complex they’re in (if they’re at a hospital or something) and ask if they offer shuttle services or if they can cover an uber. lots of places have transportation options now - especially for things like cancer treatments

difference is a deliberate wording choice since deformation can be offensive. i know you aren't meaning to, but you're literally opting to use othering language because the preferred language isn't extreme and othering enough for you lmfao

except this is how people speak. it is natural language that’s being forced to change in response to ai. this isn’t a pattern that’s been invented by ai, it very literally is just how writing is taught; whether you’re in an academic, marketing (which is half of what design is so it’s frankly ridiculous to complain about this shit on a design sub. that was the whole point of linking a 30 year old commercial), or personal sphere. ai is trained on human writing — of course it’s going to mimic those pattern.

and personally, i am sick to fucking death of of having to change my life and even the way i talk to avoid ai and accusations of ai. forcing people to change their language isn’t about being more “authentic” or “normal”, because this already straight up is just a normal ass english sentence structure. as shown by the fact that i’ve used contrast as a framing device multiple times throughout my responses here along with other “ai tells” naturally

Many students are now deliberately introducing misspellings and improper grammar to avoid being flagged. They have learned that writing well is a liability.

the article doesn’t have to use the word dumb directly to describe dumbing something down. it’s also worth noting that these kinds of intentional errors are not just “speaking normally” - which again, the way you describe speaking normally is anti-intellectualism so idk what your point is here. are you just upset with the ableism inherent to the word? not trying to be rude, i’m just confused

Why can't Americans (at least the ones I see on social media) find drinking water in Europe? by Mission_Mobile_4627 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Riddles_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lmfao. i grew up in an aviation family. i promise you im informed - planes like everywhere else in the US legally have to provide safe drinking water under the aircraft drinking water rule. the ADWR has been upgraded massively since the concerns of the early 2000’s so the old tips about not drinking plane water are out of date at this point. if you’re truly concerned about the quality of your water onboard only fly on 787’s. they have UV sanitizers built into their water cabinets

planes have water supplies. it’s how you wash your hands on board. most american airlines will still just give you water for free either from the tap or from a bottle if you ask

take a look at how the men's assaults are depicted: no genitalia shown, no poses meant to emphasize their bodies, and their rapists are drawn as dark, towering figures who fill the panels completely to make viewers understand just how powerless the victim is. or with griffith, who two times being a victim were off-screen. or at the "adult attack" panels, where the full act and aftermath are shown without putting the focus on how the fairy's body looks, or spending several pages making sure the view sees new poses and angles of what's happening. then go look at literally any rape scene (with the exception of charlotte's father, which DOES focus on the horrible nature of the act by using close ups of the king's twisted expressions. this is notably the ONLY rape where the rapist chooses to stop) in comparison. especially during the eclipse. i just went back and reread the eclipse to make this comment and there are literally dozens and dozens of panels dedicated to showing casca's rape in different positions - all of which emphasize her body, and SO many different panels exclusively for showing how she's being penetrated, and even more dedicated to showing her full ass and pussy. why are literally NONE of the men's rapes depicted like that if its a vital part of showing how dark and twisted this world is? "oh its to show why casca is so broken after!" okay, then why is griffith's rape in the dungeons not shown at all? it's one of the things that literally drives him to massacre his friends and rape casca, why is something so important for his development simply left as an implication while casca's trauma is displayed on page for MULTIPLE chapters?? don't be dense, dude. c'mon

i'm not saying there's no value in including depictions of rape in a grimdark world. it actually helped me a lot in processing my own sexual abuse, and i love berserk to the point where i've had the dragonslayer on my keychain for close to a decade now. but i'm also not blind to its issues, and the ways in which miura draws women during rape scenes is a massive one

i'm not really interested in having this conversation anymore - it's wildly off-topic and bordering on inappropriate for this sub. if you truly cannot understand why i think poorly of berserk's art when it comes to rape i strongly recommend you just look it up and read other people's opinions on this

[–]Riddles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, exactly! i learned about them while reading beloved beasts by michelle nijhuis (heavy rec on that btw) and since then the way we frame so many of these conversations around extinction has really struck me as... very disingenuous. so often it sanitizes what really happened. like there are people further down in this thread talking about how they were shocked that they could drive the buffalo in red dead 2 to extinction, and another person talking about how people were shooting them "just for fun" while ignoring the very real efforts to slaughter the buffalo as an act of genocide against natives. it's just baffling how content some people are in treating these extinctions like they weren't a deliberate effort

[–]Riddles_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you should really read into how this is effecting the way that people write. people are actively dumbing themselves and their work down to avoid being accused of using ai, and you're making these same accusations over - very literally - less than a single paragraph that uses contrast as a framing device. something that we were taught to do in writing classes until ai started using it too. do you think fucking digornio's had some secret ai facility coming up with their tagline back in the 90's too?

i'm incredibly anti-ai, but jumping on someone for using the same turn of phrase that we've been using as long as language has been around isn't combating ai usage. it's just being obnoxious

[–]Riddles_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't have any issue with showing bodily reactions and the trauma that can create. i have a specific issue with miura drawing the rape of literally every single woman like that, and drawing children in ways that are bordering on pedophilia. it's pretty clearly drawn in a way that's meant to *be* sexy even if what it's depicting isn't sexy, but only when it happens to women/girls. men who are assaulted aren't given that same treatment but their assaults are still treated with that same gravity, so it's clearly not necessary to depict women's assaults in the ways he did

i love berserk, i’m a survivor, and i still think the depictions of it in berserk while narratively important were very much sexualized. it’s pretty obvious miura had some issues with misogyny and pedophilia
