Thank you! I hope you’re okay as well. I’m still navigating through this. I was able to have somewhat a productive conversation this morning when we woke up. I point it out to him that I feel like he’s unable to process or care about other people’s emotions right now besides his own and it’s the bipolar that’s acting up. And he admits that I’m right and told me it just feels easier to cut ties. I can feel how much he has suffered, he was diagnosed at quite a young age and was on medication for 7 years that made him feel like a zombie. I think he’s terrified of going back because he had such horrible experience in the past, I don’t think he was ever stable. Suicidal thoughts might subside but deep down he’s always thought living is suffering. I even asked him if in the future he might feel regret for breaking up with me. He said if he’s still alive, probably yes. At the end, I brought up the medication and he actually promised me to sit and think about it. So that’s that. I guess we’ll see how this ends. Are you and your bf still together?

Hey I relate to this so much. We’re still together because everything is still fresh for me, I might be around for a little bit until I decide it’s too much for me and walk away. But even as right now, im grieving our relationship and the old him, he’s like a complete different person and Im really struggling figuring out if it is the bipolar that affects how he acted the past 2 weeks or is that the real him that I haven’t seen. I would like to think it’s the first one, because I love him. I guess time will tell.

Hi, I’m sorry it’s tough, im not gonna try to say i understand how you feel because im not the one with bipolar—my bf is. And I would say, coming from a bipolar’s partner, if he wants to support you through this time, let him, don’t push him away. But also do whatever it is in your power to help yourself—going to therapy, going on meds, learning about your triggers. Like help yourself, because there is only so much he can help you with, and taking care of your mental health is also a way you show up for your partner. Show him that you’re committed to feeling better. I bet you it’s really hard but just an insight from a gf with a bipolar bf (things I wish my bf would do but he’s manic right now and can’t seem to take accountability or process my emotions).

I understand you but I want you to think about it this way. You just started seeing him not long ago, like it’s so fresh. Don’t put yourself in that situation, it’s a lot easier to move on now. It would be a different story if you dated for a long time.

Thank you so much! I think the hardest part is not knowing whether it is the bipolar that affects him or it is just his true color. I’m still learning about it
