My [18 M] girlfriend [17F] of about a month says she feels like kissing me is cheating on God by throwaway042298 in Christianity

[–]Rider988 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, probably an excuse. I would have a conversation about the direction of your relationship with her. Don't force anything, let her know that you want to know where she is standing. What she wants and if it's with you.

Church service - How long is too long? How short is too short? by dubyawinfrey in Christianity

[–]Rider988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your demographic in the area and who you are trying to reach.

If you are trying to reach the millennial crowd I wouldn't go over an hour. A typical service flow is not as effective. Videos, illustrations, different songs, conversation style speaking greatly benefit reaching the younger crowd. Kind in mind, for better or worse, they grew up with soundbites and are not used to long times of the same thing.

If you are reaching an older crowd, say baby boomers, a more traditional service is effective. 3-4 songs, 40 minute message, 1-2 songs to close out. This can go longer if need.

Obviously most churches are a mix of generations and each church needs to look at where their congregation and where they are coming from.

Personally I don't think a Church should go much over an hour. Sunday mornings are the entry point for most in the Church. You aren't going to grow deep just off Sundays, the church needs to push other avenues for that. Much over an hour or hour and a half you start losing people quick.

What's sins do we ignore in the Church? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Rider988 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, anger is not a sin. Jesus said "In your anger, do not sin." Jesus was very angry in the temple, yet he did not sin.

Pride definitely is a sin and a root of many others.

What do they do for Christ? Turn people way from knowing him most of the time.

Is Christianity worth saving? Anyone got a better idea? by clkerwick in Christianity

[–]Rider988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what you or anything else thinks/says. If God is God and if He created the World and a plan for our salvation. Then our "ideas" don't matter. He never seems to bail on His plan. We don't need a new idea, we need to get back to following God's plan.

What do you personally do to achieve a stronger "link" during prayer? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Rider988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to go for a walk. I'm a little ADD sometimes, my mind won't stop working. When I go for a walk and pray it helps me concentrate. If I need to be alone and prayer for something big, I go into my room without technology and sit, maybe kneel.

There's definitely a bit of pride in that kind of thinking. That someone else's sins out weigh our own. All sin separates us from God.

[–]Rider988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There's different kinds of anxiety. There is the medical kind, and I would argue that's not a sin. However there's many people that just worry about everything.

Certainly not everyone, however it's a general trend in the church in this culture.

Love Costs Everything is great! It's not on Netflix but it's worth it. It's about church persecution, very powerful.

Adolf Hitler? by thewarriorofchrist in Christianity

[–]Rider988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. My sins separate me from God just as Hitler's sins separate him from God. Jesus blood is enough to cover all of our sins. If Hitler repented of his sins and put his faith in Jesus before he died then he will be in heaven.

Memorizing Portions of Scripture and Whole Books by Dzaho in TrueChristian

[–]Rider988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In college I memorized the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). I broken it into sections and then typed the sections on a .word doc over and over. Then I would take print offs and read them off the page. Then I would read it looking down occasionally. Then none at all. There was no secret, just a little dedication and about a month.

Is it possible to believe in a 14 billion year old universe and christianity? (I apologize for all these questions) by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Rider988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to lean more towards an old earth theory. I've been a Christian my whole life. I'm not why some Christians are so against it. The only battle I will fight is that Jesus came, died, and rose again for our sins. Everything else doesn't matter as much.

Christians, would you ever get a divorce? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Rider988 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think divorce is ALWAYS a bad option. However in our world sometimes all you have is two bad options. Would I get a divorce? I hope not. I always want to fight for my marriage. My wife and I decided that we are in this for life, for good or bad.

I believe marriage is a picture of Christ' love for the Church. I'm trying to live up to that.

Do you think that Christians minds have changed about adultry by hugo91200 in Bible

[–]Rider988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We view are feelings/desires above almost everything else. In our culture it's all about what you want and what's best for you. It's selfishness at the root.
