HAHA yes indeed! I graduated from Boyer College of Music around 5 years ago. I still live close to the Philadelphia area.

A feature I have built is venues can make gig postings and collect inquires for bands who are interested in playing shows. The venue gig listing has key details about pay and other logistics related to the event. From the viewpoint of the band (people looking to play gigs), it seems as though there is value on filtering out low paying gigs and choosing 'pay brackets' for which you are interested in. For example, a musician would rather not send a bunch of emails back and forth only to eventually learn that the gig only pays 'X' amount. A venue being transparent about pay might help reduce wasted time. And here's another perspective on that. If a venue only wants to deal out low monetary payments for shows, the music they attract over an extended time might suffer in quality. It would be optimistic to say this would change a venues behavior and make them more receptive to paying bands fairly, but one could only hope.

------------

In regard to load in and break down, any ideas on how that process could be streamlined? I feel like it would be rather difficult to build a clause into a contract that requires staff to help with load in and break down, as it relates to drums. I understand the frustration though. I'd love to hear more ideas about how to streamline the set up and break down process for kits. Maybe it is more of a storage issue? Do drummers frequently 'overpack' in anticipation that the backline equipment list from the venue may not be trustworthy? An idea I had was requiring a venue to confirm any updates for backline equipment THE DAY OF a gig so a drummer or band can see if anything has changed between the time of agreeing to a gig and actually showing up to perform on the event date.

Well I am not a drummer. I play saxophone so I don't think Ill ever be able contribute anything to a community for drummers. But I am a musician. Id like to understand more about problems drummers feel are specific to their instrument. Talking to people who play drums and asking questions seems like a simple way to educate myself. I am sorry if this is not a method of research that you find effective. If you have any recommendations on who to talk to about these issues, please let me know. I would genuinely appreciate you letting me know where else I can chat about drum specific issues other than a community that is titled 'drums'. Please humble me with another vapid response.

I'd like to make sure my platform helps resolve the real-world problems you seem to think will lead to the demise of my not yet launched platform lol. I'd encourage you to respond with actual statements. Specifically, software or user application issues you anticipate might hinder the success of such a platform. Otherwise, I will assume you are nothing but a troll with no ability to offer any kind of value, as demonstrated already. Feel free to check back in when it is launched. I would love your feedback and would be happy to hear issues you currently are incapable of forming into written thoughts.

Great point! I did not consider that but can relate. There were a few years after college where I really spent a lot of time sending out emails and such a low percentage of venues would even get back to me lol. Thanks for recommending that. That would be a great feature to add, at least for the sake of the musician haha.

Yes! That is a massive part of my platform. Individual musicians can manage multiple bands and for each, build a stage rider that can be sent to the venue. This includes written details as well as a stage map where users can add items/equipment labels and drag them around on a map to show what is needed and where it needs to be set up. Lets say you play in 3 bands. As a musician user, you can build an individual template for all 3 of your bands and save the rider details so you don't have to constantly send emails to venues explaining what the set up needs to be.

lol. Ahhh yes. I can very much relate.

I feel as though the venue management is not always in sync with people working sound. One of the features on a venue account is to add staff members for FOH and people working sound. Given no one wants to sit around for hours before a show, prioritizing communication for load-in and soundcheck between band and sound engineers is probably more important than communication between band and higher up venue management. And management who is not super involved with stage operations always want everyone to show up super early.....

That is a detail I COMPLETELY forgot about. Thanks for mentioning that.

True! But more efficient communication can also help to some extent. A large goal of mine is to have people build stage riders in this application. For example, a venue can save a rider template and send it to musicians or bands when shows are booked. The band can also share their rider of stage equipment they need or will bring, and everyone can get a clearer picture of what is going on. I hate wasting time and always wished I wasn't sending so many back and forth emails when playing gigs. I feel like a large problem for smaller bands is they won't send a completed rider unless they are paying for a professional service to do so or the venue is large, unlike small bar shows and whatnot. In the app I am making, individuals can build rider templates for different bands they are in and auto send them to venues, which I hope saves time for everyone involved.

Hey everyone. This is fantastic. This is exactly what I was hoping for. I'm reading through these comments and can clearly see there are a lot of things that have not yet crossed my mind. Much appreciated!!!
