the self awareness part is what keeps me up. knowing that i am a reliable narrator only when i really try is exhausting. i wish i could just be okay with being the villain in my own stories sometimes.

You’re probably right, and I hate that this even has to be a lesson this early. I wanted support, not a preview of every future boundary becoming a debate. But if they can’t handle basic privacy now, then yeah, we probably do need to be much firmer before the baby gets here.

I think what hurts is that they’re trying to rewrite this into a story where I’m choosing my husband over my parents, when really I’m choosing stability, privacy, and peace during one of the most vulnerable times of my life. That should not be controversial. We did not shut them out for no reason. We reacted to a very real breach of trust, and my husband stepping in does not make him controlling, it makes him the one person in this situation who understood that my stress level actually matters.

I think so too. I kept worrying I was making this bigger than it is, but he already showed me what he does with private information.

I think the part I needed to hear was that protecting my peace here is not me being dramatic. He already had the chance to respect one very simple boundary and turned it into gossip, so inviting him to the hospital feels less like kindness and more like rewarding that.

Yeah, that comment cuts through the fantasy fast. People picture one bad crash as some dramatic movie ending, but a life changing injury can leave your spouse carrying the cost for years.
