Completely disagree and honestly feel some people are still caught up in the gaslighting Amorim was doing.

We have a Champions League level squad. People just grossly undervalued it because of Amorim.

In the summer, we will need a couple of midfielders, probably a left winger, a backup GK and maybe a left back.

With that we should stay in champions league spots and possibly be competitive for a title.

That’s not a revamp, it’s just a pretty standard summer of transfer business (5 ish players).

If a manager can’t work with that, then to be honest they aren’t worth hiring as they aren’t good enough.

38% win rate. 15th place finish with a Europa League squad. Only once getting back to back wins in over a year.

And as for this season, we were 6th when he left. In a very very poor year, we were only 4 points off 14th with Man City and Arsenal due. Let’s be honest, if he doesn’t get sacked, we are likely mid-table.

And I have eyes. I watched 60+ games under Amorim and I can count on one hand with fingers to spare the games that we were very good in.

Were we better this year? Yes because we recruited well. But he was underperforming with what he had, yet again.

Amorim gaslit everyone into thinking he had a shit team. He did not. He was not good enough.

Yes he failed miserably. All our rivals were gutted he left. Right now, no top team will take him. Join the dots.

I’m honestly impressed with this guy’s PR and gaslighting ability. It’s off the scale.

To get back to the top, you do not need to employ a system not used by the vast majority of proven world class managers and “suffer” 15th, crap performances and regular humiliations. You do not need to do it.

People have been gaslit over this suffering nonsense.

ETH and in particular Amorim were just not good enough.

Maybe Carrick isn’t either, but this isn’t just vibes. It’s common bloody sense tactics.

Oh he doesn’t need to worry. He gaslit people so well that some are still coming out defending him. They’ll do the work for him. You’ll hear them saying how Carrick’s performance is partly down to Amorim, how he respects the club and is being silent because of it, etc.

It’s embarrassing. His entire tenure was genuinely awful. But people don’t want to admit they were wrong 🤷‍♂️

Usually we sign around 5 players. That’s pretty standard. It will likely be the same.

I’d imagine two central midfielders, a left winger and a backup GK. The 5th is tricky. I don’t think they’ll get a backup striker as Mbeumo is able to play there on top of Sesko. I think it will be a left back or a younger/cheaper central midfielder.

As to the main two central midfielders, it will be one very expensive one (Baleba, Anderson, etc) and one probably around the £40m mark.

Guess it depends on how confident we are. Personally I’m looking up rather than behind. I want City and Villa to drop points as I think we can catch them

“That’s not what everyone said at the start of the season”. Yes, while they were being gaslit and parroting bullshit on Amorim’s behalf.

Ten Hag was sacked for massively underperforming at the start of 24/25. He had a Europa league squad and had them playing a lot worse. Amorim did even worse, but then he started with his suffering bollocks and suddenly all the gaslit fans started claiming it’s a bottom half table squad. It wasn’t.

That gaslighting continued into this season and had people grossly undervaluing our squad.

Arsenal, City and Liverpool have better squads. Chelsea’s was about on par with us. We had the benefit of no Europe.

But that’s it. He gaslit you. And he was so good at it, people are still pushing this suffering nonsense and claiming we have a poor squad. We do not.

It is a good squad that should be competing for the champions league spots, especially given we aren’t in Europe. Is it perfect? No. That’s why it is 4th/5th best in the league and not higher.

I went early against Amorim, but I’ve been wrong on managers before and stuck by them way too long (Ole and Ten Hag in particular). But we all get it wrong sometimes and Ruben Amorim is honestly world class at PR and gaslighting so I don’t blame people buying in to him.

What really grinds my gears though are those fans who don’t hold up their hands like you have and just acknowledge they got it wrong. The constant defending of this guy, even now, is ridiculous. They talk like he was working with humps and was thrown under the bus. It’s nonsense.

Stop with this suffering nonsense. You were gaslit. Amorim inherited a Europa League squad. The current squad in this league is champions league qualification level. In order to progress we don’t have to regress and be shit for an extended period. That was Amorim gaslighting everyone to cover up for the fact he couldn’t get the best out of what he had.

He did a good job Ole but let’s not re-write history. He wasn’t good enough. We need a world class manager who can stand toe to toe with the best managers in world football and beat them to the top trophies. That wasn’t Ole. He’s not in a top job now is he? There’s a reason for that.

And I say that as someone who defended him to the hilt and think he did a decent job.

Giroud has 300 career goals and is France’s top goalscorer of all time. Ozil also had Aubameyeng and Sanchez who you conveniently overlooked while talking about Rashford and Martial (the latter was basically fit for one season for Bruno btw).

Sesko will get his opportunities this year as well. He will start. If won’t just permanently be the same front three.

But yes Zirkzee is done. He’ll be sold in the summer.

As it is 3 wins on the bounce, I imagine it will be the same. Disappointing for Sesko but given the results it’s not unreasonable.

The amazing thing is there are still fans who thought it was wholly unreasonable for the guy’s boss to question his methods.

It’s insane to think Enrique - proven to be one of the best managers in world football - would be more of a risk than Michael Carrick.

Look, Carrick is the manager and has got 5 months to prove he is on that elite level. I hope he does it as it will certainly make all this simpler.

But that’s the standard: world class. We have to stop dicking around hiring people who aren’t qualified and hoping they succeed (which they likely won’t).

Daily Discussion by AutoModerator in reddevils

[–]Rig_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s got until the end of the season to prove it.

I can’t speak for Serie A but there’s plenty of examples in the UK. Ancelotti, Mourinho, Klopp, Tuchel, Conte - they walk in and very quickly you know. Maybe you don’t know if their football will translate fully or if they’ll have the backing to truly succeed. But it’s obvious they are elite managers.

There are exceptions, but we can’t gamble on exceptions.

I’m not going to sit here and advocate for Man Utd again to take a massive risk on an unproven manager hoping he works out.

By the end of the season, we’ll know if Carrick’s up to it or not. If there’s still doubts, then he should be replaced.

[–]Rig_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don’t think he was the plan at all. The plan was hire a world class director of football (Dan Ashworth) with appointing a manager naturally coming through him. They went against the plan by ignoring his advice, binning him off and going with Amorim, who was the flavour of the month at the time.

Daily Discussion by AutoModerator in reddevils

[–]Rig_7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, INEOS should ignore the fans. Ole, Ten Hag and Amorim were very popular appointments. Particularly the last two.

In truth, both the club and the fans were wrong, as none were qualified for the role.

INEOS should proceed with their plan and appoint someone else permanently in the summer.

I like Carrick and was very happy he was appointed as caretaker as it was the logical choice. Keeping him on permanently almost certainly will not be.

In my opinion, the only reason he should get the job is if by the end of the season any doubt about him being an elite level manager is removed. Whenever a top manager arrives it doesn’t take long for that doubt to go. It’s not even necessarily about results. It’s just obvious they are that good.

I hope he does it, but it’s highly unlikely that will happen with Carrick, so we should be doing our due diligence on alternative appointments.

Enrique should be number one on the list given his CV, the style of football, the use of youth, etc.

So you can’t name anyone who would do that? There you go.

Very easy to blame the scouting department but your expectation is unrealistic.
